Chapter 12

Part 12- No Name

The next two days went by so fast. Soon it was time for them to lead back home. No one wanted to, go back to that world. This was like their dream world here. You know, how every kid wishes for a world without grown up's? A world where kids are the president and teacher and the sanitation officers. Obviously, if Kids were ruling the world there would be no need for school, the students would know more than the students. Well, that's kinda true now too, Im sure we all know more than how dumb teachers, who in the right mind gave them a teachers degree anyway? I mean, all my Chemistry teacher does is talk in gibberish…or maybe that's because and put cotton in my ears.
    Anyway lets get back to the story, so like how we all dream of a world without oldies, Angad,Raj, Vedika, Kripa Meem and Shazad made their dream world in that one room. Take that for an example, these two days, all these kids were in the same room, but they didn't do anything bad, but would our oldie parents ever let us share a room with the opposite gender like that? God, grown up's have such a dirty mind. That's why us kids never want to grow up….but time takes care of that, doesn't it?
     They were all packing the bags. Tomorrow morning, they would head back for New York again.
K- Raj hand me my top there
R- The pink one or the brown one?
K- Yeah, im gonna wear the brown one tomorrow
R- Ok, oh this is the brown one ou bought from the opening for Bebe
K-yeah….(kinda freaked)
R- Ok, I dotn know how I remembered that, I just did
K (laughing)- Raj you're a sweetheart
R (gloating)- I know
K- Shut up
   Angad was on the phone with his Bua, who was extremely furious withhim for leaving without telling her.
A- But
U- You just wait until you come home Angad!
A- But
U- No buts, I want you home first thing tomorrow, how careless can you be?
A- But
U- GOOD BYE
A-……BUT
V- I woulnt wanna cheat off you in a vocabulary quiz
A- But
V (laughing)- Angad, your bloackign the bathroom door
A- Oh sorry
V- Oks it
A- Make sure you lock it
V- (laughing) I will
   Their room had a balcony. Meem was standing there looking at the stars. Shazad came and stood nextto her
S- Boo
M- (startled) Ah!
S-(laughing) Sorry
M- Its you, whats up
S- The stars?
M- Never mind
S- You do you look so down?
M- No reason…I guess Im sad were leaving
S- Why
M- I dunno, I guess these three days I was able to…
S- BE yourself
M- Well yeah, but Im always my self
S- Well, if you were yourself these three days, then I don't think you are yourself other times.
M- What do you mean, I ddint do anything here that I wouldn't do there
S- Its not about what you did, its about the way you are. At achool, I barely see you smiling, your always alone reading or something. Here, you had fun, you were fun.
M- I guess when Im there, the reality of life seems more…real
S- I don't know about that, but I think your scared
M- Of what?
S- Everything, your past, you parents past…you parents…life…everything
M- Thast not true
S- Maybe…but Meem, you have to realize that not everyone is like your biological father, you life wont turn out like your mothers…you wont end up doing something you'll regret later on.
M- How do you know
S- Mee, you don't enjoy yourself because you feel you going to end up doing something bad…you don't go to parties because you feel you'll get drunk, you don't date because your afraid you might get too close and end up pregnant like you biological mom but..
M- NO!
S- Ok…chill out. Just remember, that you have to be confident about yourself…you have to learn to trust yourself, your up-bringing. You have to trust that you wont so anything wrong…or I dunno, anyting Un-Islamic
M- Ismalic?
S- Yeah, you seem like a girl eho cares about Islam or religion in general
M- And you don't
S- Well…I proud of it, I just don't care for it much…
M- Oh…why
S- The way I was raised, I guess
M- Makes sense.
S- You have to accept life, if you want life to accept you
M- That really doenst make sense
S- I know…but it sounds damn cool nah?
M (laughing)- Yeah
    Shazad and Meem were standing in the balcony alone. Suddenly, things got very quiet.
M- Shazad?
S- Yeah
M- Thanks
They stood there, quiet. Slowly without thinking Shazad put his hand on top of Meem's. it wasn't a nasty touch, like Shazad was trying to make a move on Meem. It was a comforting touch, telling Meem she had a friend.
   Raj was about to go to the balcony to smoke. Angad pulled him back, he was about to yell but Kripa put her hand over his mouth.
V- SHHHHH
R (whisper)- what?
K (whisper)- their having a moment
R (whisper)- Oh really?
A (whisper)- Yeah,Noe shut up. I cant hear them.
    Yes they were spying like anyother good set of friends would.
Meem slowly took her hand away from Shazads, she didn't look at him and he didn't look at her, Meem walked inside. Inside the rest of them jumped and tried to pretend like they were doing their normal activities. Angad jumped on the florr pretending like he was helping Vedika look for her earring. And Raj, (now remember that this is impulse working here) he jumped on Kripa and started kissing her.
M- Ok…
K-(smacking her hand on her head) Raj
R- Sorry
M- I'll get packed
Shazad was still outside. Slowly he started singing in a low voice.
S- Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai?? Lala…
     The next Day, they set off for New York. They were all into the music and talking, half way through the ride, a police car stopped them
P- May I have your license and registrastion please
R- Yeah sure.
    Raj gave him the registration papers, but he looked for his license and couldn't find it.
R- Crap...I left my wallet in the hotel
A- What!
P- Im waiting
R- Um officer, I misplaced my wallet
P- I heard that one before
R- No Its true
P- All you kids, come out now
K- WHAT??
P- COME OUT OF THE VEHICLE!!
   It makes me wonder, why these higher authorities always use big word like vehicle. Why cant they just say car? I mean, no offense but half the police officers just join it for the cool uniform and the fact that their not smart enough to be doctors…so do dey like study a dictionary in the car? What do they do in there for so long? What if they have to go to the bathroom? Atleast the people who take the toll get to go to that building to pee, where to the poilice officers go? Anyway, so the they all got out of the "vehicle" and eventually got in the police car. They were all taken to jail.
    They all seemed underaged, well they were. So, Raj driving without a license in the highway was pretty bad. They were tooken to the station where their parents would be called.
M- How could you forget your license!
R- I don't known, I get did
M- How can you just take all of this of easily!
R- Would you shut up
P- All of you shut up
K- We're sorry
P- I said Be quiet
S (mummering)- No, you said shutup
P- What?
A- This is such a watse of time
P- What you say?
A- I said This is a waste of time, for you and us. I mean, think about it. All that's going to happen is, your going to call their parents, you cant call mines, sorry they died. But you'll call their and they'll come and pick them up, and then leave. Then you'll have to drive all the way back here to catch another loser and do the whole thing over again. You really think its worht it
P- I don't get paid enough for this job. You have the right to remain silence, anything you say can and will be used against you.
V- Angad please be quiet
A- Fine.
   They were all taken to the station. The guys were messing around to much in there, so the officer got mad and put them in the lock up.
S- Is this legal?
K- Yeah, were not criminals
P- Yes you are, you though a baseball at the officer, that officially makes you criminals. And Mr. Raj Verma here has a criminal record aswell.
M- How can you guys be taking this all so easily, were in jail!
V- We know that Meem!
K- Stop yelling
R- guys just chill out
M- You better just shut the hell up, hpw the hell do you forget to bring your license? I was so fricking stupid to come with you guys.
A- Whats that supposed to mean, these three daysd you had a blast, the minute we fall in a little trouble you change your whole attitude. Your right, you shouldn't have come in this trip, we shouldn't have brought you. The only reason we did was because Vedika wouldn't have come if you didn't.
K- Angad, shut up…The only reason Vedika went to tlak to you was because of Meem! So you could convince Mr. Das to convince Meem's parents.
A- What?
V- Angad…it's not because
A- This is all such a fricking waste of time. Officer, you mind telling my aunt to come a little fast, if I stay here any longer Im going to have a criminal record for hurting one of these kids too.
P- Be quiet all of you
M- I want to go home
R- Would you shutup Meem. Ok, were all in trouble, were all here in jail. Its not only you!
M- You may be used to this stuff but im Not
R- What the hell do you mean by that! You know what you are, you one of those hypocrite who only know how to think for yourself. Everything is good until you get in a little trouble, your a…
S- Shut up.
R- You shut up, why you always protecting that lil…
Shazad went and pushed Raj, and Raj pushed him back. Meem started crying. Seeing that Shazad got angry and punched Raj. Raj punched him back.
R- We're over, you hear me! OVER!
   The officer came and put all of them in separate lock up's. They got their one phone call. Raj called his dad and told him to sort everything out.
V- You don't worry beta, I'll fix everything.
R- Yeah, and make sure that my friends don't get in trouble, get them out before you get me out ok.
V- Ok son
R- Thanks.
   Raj hated asking his dad for anything, but what he hated even more was fighting with his friends. Fighting with Shazad, The only way to fixed tings with Shazad was to get Meem out of all this so she's not in truoble. At this point Raj really hated Meem, but anything for Shazad.
   In about half a hour, Mr. Verma sent someone with papers. After seeing those papers the officer went and released all the kids. They all went straight home. No one talked for the rest of the break. Until school started again.
   Everyone gathered in History, and Mr. Das came in. He looked different today. Other days Mr. Das looks happy, like someone who has a lot to lvie for. Today, he just looked sad, as if he had lost something really big in life.
D- Guys just shutup and sit down.
S- Whats wrong with you?
D- I SAID SHUT UP
S- Sorry
D- Why do people get married?
S- huh?
The whole class looked at Mr. Das. Its was as if he was in a trans or something. He wasn't really talking to the class, it was more like he was talking to himself.
D- I mean realy, why do they get married? Why do they fal in love? It s all such a waste of life. At the end they leave you, they hate you and you end up losing so much valuable time you could have spent doing something important like playing play station. But no, we go ahead thinking we will spend our whole lives wwit this one girl who we love and what happens? We spend all our lives alone, wondering why it didn't work? Its pathetic.
A- So why are you getting married?
D- I have no idea
A- Don't you love her?
D- No
   Angad blinked, he was shocked as he stared at Mr. Das. I mean, the fact that Nr. Das was talking about his aunt, and that he didn't love her really disturbed him.
R- Well, then their really isn't a point in getting married is there?
D- Its complicated
S- Not really, you grown ups just complicate everything, if you know you don't love her, then you don't have to get married.
D- there's moe to it
K- What else is there
M- Of course there's more to it
R- Here she comes with her snakaars and farz
M- Its not about all that. But I don't get this. If your not in love with her, how did you get this far into the relationship. What made you go this far with her?
D- Umm
V- I agree with Meem here, its about the priciple, you know that you don't love this person, why are you wasting your time and hers by carrying the realtionship out?
D- Maybe…
K- Yeah, you should just breakup with her
M- Why?
K- What you do mean why?
M- I mean, ok if you don't love this woman why did you ask her to marry you
A- Maybe because she's a really good person and would be a good life partner.
M- Ok, so then why sint Mr. Das going to marry her
R- Because he doesn't love her
V- But he didn't propose to her because he loved her, he proposed to her because she's a good partner. So is she no longer a good person now that he wants to break up with her
D- I never sadi I want to break up with her
V-How can you do that to a person, how can you play with their emotions and suddenly decide that you don't love them
M- Why do you have to love her.
S- How is the marriage going to work if they don't love each other?
M- He loved Ms. Nisa, and that turned out bad, maybe its better to marry someone your able to live with than marrying someone you love
V- What? No
M- What no?
S- Imarriages don't work for many reasons, it really have noting to do with love
M- Exactly, if it has nothing to do with love, why do we need to amrry someone we love. What if we don't love anyone?
S- Then you don't get married
R- Yeah you wait until you find someone you love
K- But the case here is tha Mr. Das sill loves Ms. Nisa
D- I never said that
A- So why is he getting married again?
V- Exactly, you love someone, it didn't work, fine..who gave you the righ to ruin someone elses life.
M- How is that ruining? Mr. Das and his fiancee stll seem happy together
R- They seem happy, but its obvious that Mr. Das isn't, which makes his fiancee not happy.
K- Exactly, so this relationship is a waste.
R- Yeah
M- So why didn't they break up already?
S- Because they had no reason too
M- So why are suggesting they break up?
K- Because they don't love each other
M- But Life is still working for them, they seem to be making this relationship work.
V- My point here is that, ok so Mr. Das goes and tells his fiancee that he wants to break up because he doesn't love her right
K- That's is right
V- Why now? So why did he get engaged to her, he thought he loved her but now he realizes that he doesn't?
R- Yeah
V- So what happens to the commitment, that couls happen after marriage too then, 7 years after marriage you realize you don't love this woman so you leave her. Is it still right. Im my opinion, its was about commitment.
R- So then you shouldn't have made the commitment, I get what Vedika is sayng. If Mr. Das still loves Ms. Nisa he had no right to make a commitment to his fiancee
M- Most of the time, you dotn fallin love over and over again, you stay in love with one person, and you try to spend your life with that person Mr. Das tried that and failed.
S- So?
M- SO your saying that you should only marry that person you love, that didn't work out for Mr. Das. So now, he should to get married to someone he doesn't love because you only fall in love once
V- THEN YOU SHOULD ONLY GET MARRIED ONCE ALSO!
M- Why
K- What do you mean why
M- Why do you need to get married to someone you love?
A- To be happy! oh my god this is a waste of time!
M- But Mr. Das wasn't happy with Ms. Nisa. But he loved her, so what they should keep on getting married and divorced until they make it work. Isnt it better to get married to someone you may not love but still live happily with
S- Why do you have to get married? You didn't get the girl you love,d so fine live your life alone
M- Just because his marriage didn't work out he should become a devdas?
S- You to live life just the way a married person would, but just don't get married
M- But htats wong
S- In your book, maybe its right in mines.
The bell rang.
D- Enough debating, go to lunch kids. Im so very confused now.
   Everyone left for lunch. Angad stayed and went up too Das and pulled to collar.
A (angry voice)- If you play with my aunts life, I swear to god I'll kill you!
D- Ok
A- Ok…you don't love her, leave her now. Don't you dare think about hurting her after you two get married!
D- Ok
    Angad left the room angrily. After lunch some kids had lunch duty. Meem and Shazad were one of them.
Bella- Meem can you go get the broom from the storage room
M- Sure
B- Thanks
Meem wne too the room was looking for the broom. Suddenly she heard the door open, it was Shazad. Shazad stared at her, and they both heard the door slam shut. They didn't talk since they jail incident. Meem didn't walk to talk to him or any of them.
S- Meem Im sorry about what happened
M- Shazad, just forgetit. Im really not into going to jail and fights and all.
S- But…
M- Maybe I was really happy those three days, but im happy now too. And I want things to stay the way they are, with me and my family and my life.You all are too…."daring" for me
S- What?
M- I really don't need to be friends with you
S- Fine! I don't need to be friends with you either
M- FINE!
S- All you do is whine and complain. You're the worst friend anyone can have.
M- Ok, that's why I dotn want to be friends with you! Your just a trouble maker
S- I don't want to be friends with you either!
   Meem and Shazad didn't notice how close they were. They could hear each other breath. Suddenly they both stop yelling and just stared at each other.Confused about why they were fighting. What it because they didn't want to be friends anymore, or because they wanted to be more than friends?
   Shazad closey tangled his fingers with her.Bringing her closer to him. Meem was still staring at his eyes. She wanted to back away but for some reason couldn't. Shazad slowly brought his lips close to hers, bringing her closer to him.He tilted his head and took one had and brushed the hair off her face. Slowly they kissed. The slow kiss soon became a passionate one. Shazad had his arms around her hips and she had her hands around his neck. They were spining while kissing (which sounds kinda funny, don't ya think?). Suddenly Shazad's cell phone rang. They oth pulled off each other. Meem face was the cutest shade of pink you ever saw. They were both breathing very hard. Shazad answered his call
S- Yeah?
   (2 sec pause)
S- Ok, bye.
Meem was looking down, and Shazad went o her again. Pulled her close to him and asked
S- So does this mean we're not friends anymore?
