She started at him as he gripped her from her shoulders more tightly……….its was hurting now she thought……….starring into those cold grey eyes full of fury tears formed in her eyes……….

 

"What the hell do u think did u just do? Why did u take the blame on yourself? Come on Dr Riddhima speak up?"

 

He shook her violently  ………..looking into her eyes full of tears…….suddenly he felt his hands loosening his grip………he was surprised by his own action……..

 

"Dr Armaan………leave me please ur hurting me………" choked a shocked Riddhima…….

 

She looked at him lowering his gaze and freeing her…..he stood a few feet away from her………folding his arms across his chest…….waiting for her to say something………

 

"Dr Armaan……….i saved bcoz I knew u didn't do anything intentionally……I saved bcoz I know u have the makings of a great doctor in u ………had ur mistake come out then it wud affect ur reputation badly………I know how much u value ur work……..i am sorry to have interfered……….i just meant to help u out Dr Armaan…………but I guess I was wrong……..it always happens with me……..i try to help and it backfires………today was no exception……..i am sorry ………"

 

Saying so she left the cabin leaving a stunned Armaan behind…..she cudnt control her tears………..as she walked out the nurse informed her that she will would have to do double duties from tomorrow……

 

Great Riddhima thought…….now a punishment of double duty……..well it wasn't going to hurt her as much as Armaan's reaction did………touching her sore shoulders she felt her pain intensify………..how could he be so rude to her……she had been so polite…….so nice to him despite his coldness and he………..guess I am always unlucky………

 

As she went back home…..slumping on the bed sherested her head against the pillow tired………..how was she going to cope up with him everyday……..his coldness was killing………he hardly acknowleged her presence………..but still why did she like being close to him………why did she want to be around him all the time…….was it just attaraction and lust?????? Obviously it was she thought………she was merely attaracted to him……….it cudnt be nything else she thought turning over……just then she heard her phone ringing……..

 

"Hello?"

"Riddhima wat the hell am I hearing……..? U commited a blunder today……….i don't think u can make such a mistake ………and as far as I know u weren't even assisting armaan on the case……..then why has Papa punished u ?"

 

'Di actually……….Armaan……..errm actually………"

Riddhima tried fishng out words to explain Anjali the truth……..but she just cudnt………how cud explain her actions?

 

"Hmm so I guessed it right………u saved Dr Armaan………took the punishment upon urself just in your very first week……….can I ask u why my dear sister…….why did u have to become so great……..He commited a mistake let him suffer………why did u have to butt in? As it is he doesn't seem to treat u properly………I hav noticed he hardly gives u any cases…….i think I need to talk to Papa……..

 

Ridhima jerked up…….

 

"No Di pls don't say nything about all this……..as it is Armaan is angry……."

 

She stopped herself from saying more…….

 

"So Ridz…….. Armaan is angry with u rite?"

 

"Di ………actually…..yes……I dunno why is he so annoyed I just tried to help him Di"

Riddhima found her eyes moistening again……….

 

"Riddhima ……..i know u are feeling bad……..but listen to me……..its his ego……..the male ego……..u see deep down he knows he was at fault……..he knew he will fall into trouble………he would have gladly accepted his mistake………but when u being his junior took it upon yourself……u hurt his ego…….he couldn't take it………he must hav felt tat u are trying to gloat over him……….so he got angry tats all I think………don't  take it to heart riddzy "

Talking to Anjali made her feel better…….she's rite thought Riddhima……its his ego…..tossing over the bed she stared at the ceiling…….thinking………his aggression was killing……..the way he gripped her………still why cudnt she shake him off……….this is lust and attaraction……….she thought……..yes I am just attaracted to him……….there cant be anything more………as I hardly know him………its better to be away from him…….his closeness kills……..

Starring into the empty fireplace he remembered her words……..

Why cudnt he forget it………why did her words keep ringing in his ears……..no woman had ever talked to him like that………the pain in her voice was so clearly noticeable……..why did he feel bad for her………..was he feeling things he had never felt………

 

"Dr Armaan get  a grip" He told him self angrily………u cannot let a woman affect u……..they why was she invading his thoughts………why cudnt he get her tear strained face out of his head……..

 

"I will say sorry" Nooooo he thought………I cant say sorry to her…….she helped me but still no I wont say nything………banging his glass on the table unable to find a solution to his confusing thoughts he dropped on his bed………

He saw her standing in front of him like everyday awaiting his orders…….but there was something different about her today……….her eyes did not glitter……..there wasn't any sparkle in them…….or was he imagining  because he was guilty……….shaking his head feeling sure he was going mad he assigned her ,her duties………….he gave her proper ones……..trying to make up ……..he didn't why but he felt bad for her…….she accepted them quietly………

The next few days Armaan noticed drastic changes in Riddhima………she no longer was keen to be around him,talk to him……….he didn't understand why………he wasn't liking it……….at first he tried to ignore but her indifference was taking a toll on him…….whenever she wasn't around he found himself thinking about her………no he cant do this he thought……..if she is keeping distance so will he……….but her nature was attaracting him towards her………her kind,golden heart……….full of love for everyone………..the way she treated her patients………everyone on the floor wud ask him for her………all adored her………..but he was firm with himself……….he tried to wash away any thoughts about her that entered his mind………he wasn't going to allow her to stir something in him which he had shyed away from………no he couldn't……….he started being more cold to her than ever…….trying to ignore her……….but he cudnt be rude to her……..

 

Riddhima found a different Armaan after tat incident………he had stopped being rude to her……..she found him more pleasant and polite………but he was still very cold………but the more she saw him the feeling for him inside her grew……….he was a master at work she knew……….she felt that there was more to his nature……..maybe circumstances made him like that……..she found it even more difficult to avoid him………he was always invading her thoughts………it was giving her headaches………it is not love she told herself firmly………u hardly know him……..how can u start to fall for him…………..

He looked at the clock on the table……….Deshpande would be coming any time for his final answers…………it had been over a month since Despande had asked to start thinking about this………he had thought and thought……

 

"Shanshank…….still think……..will this plan work?"

 

Ofcourse it wud he thought……….i have to take this decision………its for the good of sanjeevni………he thought………the trustees want my answer………they want me to hand over sanjeevni to my descender……..but how can I ?

 

I know ultimately the day will come when it has to be passed over…….but……what has to be done has to be done…..

 

He sighed as he thought about his thoughts going through his mind for the last month……..how I wanted Anjali to be the one……….she was fit and capable enough………had she not married that fool………now I cant give it to her……….if she gets it then that fool ……….as her husband will be attached too………no I cannot………he counted his fingers thinking abt the next name that had come………Rahul……….he was his collegues son……….Anjali and he would have made a fine combination……..how he had wanted their union……..but even Rahul  dissappointed him……..he chooe that idiot……..he smirked as he took her name………Muskaan……….where that girl……….her capability………and where was Rahul……..no match………but still………..both his hopes had disappointed him………..

 

"Riddhima" Putting down one finger yet again…….

 

She was too soft………she couldn't shoulder such a great responsibility……..he could have handed it to both……..Anjali and Ridz but there was no way he would have Atul interfering………never he thought………and

 

There was one main reason why he didn't want Riddhima………but rite now he would have to put it aside………As long as no one knew it was fine………no one will ever know………it was buried deep in him…….and next to him Padma was the only one who had known……….

 

But it has to be Riddhima now………How would she do it alone…….no she cant he gritted……….there was no way he could give her all rights alone……….no he would have to  put his plan in action immediately………wat if Riddhima supposedly fell in love with a toad tomorrow………that would ruin everything………..no he couldn't allow that to happen…………

 

"I will go according to my plan……….immediately………I cant allow my hard work of so many years to go into some idiot's hands…….."

 

Picking up the phone he ordered…….

 

"Send Dr Armaan in immediately……."

 

He looked over as Armaan entered………nervous and worried…..

 

"Dr Armaan……..i have called u here today for very special and important reason………Listen to me carefully……."

 

Armaan braced himself for the worst……..

 

Shanshank sighed and continued……

 

"Dr Armaan………will u marry my daughter Riddhima?"

Armaan looked over at Shanshank bewildered……….bringing up his fingers to clean his ears he thought he had heard him wrong……….thinking of doing something better than cleaning his ears he put his hand down absolutely stunned…………thinking…….

 

This old man has now lost it……..is he alrite………I mean he is asking me to marry his daughter whom I barely know……..ok she's very beautiful…………her smile goes up to her eyes………her eyes………closing his eyes to compose himself………he shook his head………Armaan wer r u going……….from the old man to his daughter……….get a grip……….ur loosing it too ………controlling his laughter …….he looked back at Shanshank looking at him……….

 

"See Armaan………I knew ur father very well………I respected him………..his caliber ……….everything………he was a great doctor and a very kind human soul………but alas he allowed his heart to rule over his mind………….but lets not discuss it here…………I see a lot of ur father in both of u ………..Rahul and u ……….let me be frank……….i wanted Anjali and Rahul to unite………..they r very well suited for each other………but fate had other plans……….as Atul and Muskaan came into the picture………

 

Armaan did not miss the frown on his face as he took their names………..he did not like it…………Muskaan was like his younger sister……….This old man is fit to be a politician he thought………..be careful armaan………..he  thought to himself………..

 

Shanshank continued………..

 

"So u see Beta……….i wud love to see an alliance between Riddhima and u ………..its my wish to see u both together………"

 

Armaan smirked……….this game isn't working on me dear uncle……….i am too smart for u he thought………..what game are u playing sasurji………he muttered with sarcasm……….well two can play the game ………..Armaan thought………..

 

Choosing his words carefully………..Armaan cautiously put his his knight forward as if he were playing chess………..lets see who does chec nd mate he thought……..

 

"Sir"

 

"Call me uncle……..Beta"

Smiling smugly he collected himself……….wow sasurji another sixer……….Uncle………..hahaha as u wish………

 

"Errm………uncle………I understand u want Riddhima and me to be united……..but we barely know each other………and uncle I don't think I am ready for marriage yet………"

 

Bingo lets see what u answer sasurji………I know u have a game in mind……….i will definitely leech it out……….armaan muttered to himself………..

 

Ohh so Armaan ur now playing with me……….thought Shanshank…………well I will open my cards then……….i know ur expecting me to press u more……….but I will play this differently………once I open my cards u will not say no ……….that I am sure……….

 

"And Uncle……….i am sure even Riddhima is not ready………What is the hurry…………we can see this later uncle………..rite now I just want to concentrate on my career……….."

 

Deciding to open up now Shanshank took a deep breath………

 

"Beta listen to me very ………carefully………wat ever I tell u now  should not go out of this room………"

 

Smiling smugly Armaan nodded his head………..finally I got u on trach Uncleeeeeeeeee…………lets see wat u have going on in ur head

 

"Armaan beta……..i have to submit my will……….giving the name of the next heir……….of Sanjeevni……..it was true wat I told u ………..i wanted Anjali to marry Rahul………so that I could pass it to them……..Anjali has all the makings of being the next dean……….so does Rahul……….but now…………I cannot bear Atul and Muskaan being associated to be very frank………..Anjali and Rahul let me down………I want Sanjeevni to be in our family…………but not at the cost of allowing Atul and muskaan interfering……..

 

"But uncle y do u hate them so much?"

 

"I have not finished with my talking yet………." Shanshank gave him a stern look………

 

"Sorry uncle" mumbled Armaan……….gritting his teeth within…….

 

"Yes so…….what I mean is Riddhima is my last hope……….much as I didn't want this………."

 

Armaan looked at him confused…….

 

"Riddhima……..is too tender hearted……….u must have noticed……….she cannot lead alone…………she needs a strong backup………and she is very innocent……….i don't want her to supposedly fall in love with a fool tomorrow who will ruin her life as well as everything else……….there are other reasons too……….but u don't need to know them……….the trustees want my answer……….now……….so Armaan beta I want Riddhima to get married to u ………then u both can be heirs………u will support her well……….."

 

Armaan  looked stunned at this ………OMG………this old man cud give all the political parties a run for their money………..great planning………u don't like Atul and Muskaan………so u want me to be tied to ur daughter…………so where is my gain……thought Armaan…….

 

"Uncle………wat will I gain………..i don't even know Riddhima well………and…….at this stage marriage…………"

 

"Armaan………as far I know u ………u think with ur head and not heart………..ur strong –willed………and very ambitious……..just like me………..u will never go ur father's way…….i know………ok……..lets put this more clear………atleast I can trust u ………..if u accept my proposal……then u will be the next head of sanjeevni………..Riddhima herself will want u to be become………I am sure…….imagine………to come to this position it would take u years of hard work………and u alone have this brilliant opportunity……….rite at ur feet……..waiting for u to pick it up………."

 

Armaan sighed……….this was too good to let go off……….controlling that Riddhima wont be a problem at all…………but still he needed to think…….

 

"Uncle I need time to think"

 

"Sure Armaan think it over……..i give u two days……….as I need to give my answer to the trustees……..hope u will accept my proposal……….and one more thing……….please do not tell anyone specially RIddhima whatever I told u …………even about the proposal……..Good day to u "

 

As Armaan left the cabin……….Shanshank sighed………..now it was time to tackle Riddhima………

Sitting on the dinning table………..Deshpande looked over at Shanshank waiting for RIddhima to arrive………

 

"Shanshank…….think again……….u r playing with two lives……..Riddhima will suffer……….wat if armaan turns his back……..on her after becoming the dean……….poor girl wont be able to take it……."

 

"He cannot do that……..as Riddhima will jointly own Sanjeevni with him………if he leaves her……..he will be thrown out automatically……….he will not dare play such a fool………from wat I know Armaan"

 

Despande sighed………….Shanshank was playing a dangerous game……..

 

Riddhima enterd the dinning room to see her father seated ……she wondered nervously………what was happening…………had she committed another mistake………….or was she at fault……….she knew Shanshank would never call her unless it was something important……….besides that he would hardly talk to her…………she thought……..

 

Sitting on the chair with sweaty palm………she looked over at him nervously……..

 

Glancing at her Shanshank knew she was an easy bait……….getting her to say yes……….wasnt going to be very difficult……….

 

"Riddhima Beta……….i have called u to discuss something very important………about ur future………

 

Seeing her shift her weight nervously……..he decided to attack straight to the point………

 

"Beta it was ur mother's last wish……..to see her daughters married to Mallik uncle's sons………Rahul and Armaan………we both wanted that union……….but as fate had it Anjali and Rahul choose other lives………..so now left are u and armaan………..i want u and armaan to settle down together…………Armaan is a very responsible and mature guy……….i am sure u will be happy with him………..

 

Riddhima felt the earth move as she heard him……..Marry Armaan………she barely knows him……….how can spend her life with him…….

 

"But papa………I don't ………."

 

"No buts Beta……..dont u want to complete ur mother's last unfulfilled wish……."

 

Bingo emotional blackmail always works thought Shashank……..

 

"Yes papa……..pls give me some time to think………."

 

Replied Riddhima nearly in tears……..

 

"Beta u can have time………two days……….i want a positive reply from u ………." He looked at her sternly…….

 

"Papa just two days………..u want me to decide the fate of my entire life in two days!"

 

"Yes Beta………u see I am going to make u thenext dean of sanjeevni………so if u get married after that a lot of legal problems can arise………."

Lied Shanshank……..he added more a bit more gently………

 

"Beta I would have not chosen Armaan if he weren't good enough………u can trust ur father rite?"

 

"Yes Papa…….but I need some time………."

 

"Alrite dear………I told u na……….i give u two days…….think well…….."

 

He looked at her leaving the table nearly in tears…….

Shanshanl looked over at Armaan standing in front of him………

 

Two days had flown away and the time had come………

Armaan felt his palms full of sweat as he touched the handle of the door to Shanshank's cabin…….why was he feeling so nervous……..hadnt he thought about this each hour since past two days……..but still …..trying to ease his mind he freed himself from all such thoughts and went in…….

 

Shanshank looked up at him expectantly as he entered the cabin…….

 

"Aahh Armaan……..Beta I was just waiting for u my boy……come in…….have a seat……." Shanshank welcomed with a huge smile………

 

Armaan smiled at this pompous show put up by Shanshank………he exactly knew why he was being pampered……

 

Smiling he moved forward………taking a seat in front of him….

 

'Uncle I have arrived at my decision……"

 

As he looked over at Shanshank leaning forward looking at him carefully and intensly Armaan's thoughts flew back to the last two days…….

As he lay on the bed that nite…….he cud not not think of anything else but Shanshank's words……..

 

 

"Armaan………as far I know u ………u think with ur head and not heart………..ur strong –willed………and very ambitious……..just like me………..u will never go ur father's way…….i know………ok……..lets put this more clear………atleast I can trust u ………..if u accept my proposal……then u will be the next head of sanjeevni………..Riddhima herself will want u to be become………I am sure…….imagine………to come to this position it would take u years of hard work………and u alone have this brilliant opportunity……….rite at ur feet……..waiting for u to pick it up………."

 

He is rite thought Armaan………punching the pillow……..who ever hard I work…….to own a hospital like sanjeevni……….it will be when I become 100 years old………and here I have this brilliant opportunity at my feet……but at what price……marry Riddhima……

 

He cloed his eyes as he took her name……..as her face flashed in front of his eyes……..he found himself looking at at those two beautiful emreld eyes……her soft smooth skin…….he felt like touching and feeling it with his skin……..caressing those lips with his fingers …….closing his eyes he saw her face looming even more closer to his……….unknowlingly his hands reached up to touch it……….

 

Startled by his actions he woke up………"OMG Armaan what the hell is wrong with you………your thinking about that Riddhima………each thoughts of yours is occupied by her……..Stop it Armaan Mallik……….Get a grip……..she is of no importance to you ………or is she…….?"

 

"Ofcourse she is" A small voice spoke inside his head…….."Riddhima is of great use to you…….Armaan……..she is the only way you can achieve your goals so soon………she is of great use to you…….."

 

But then why am feeling so guilty as I think of using her……..thought Armaan…….so many women have come and gone……..but none have ever affected me like this…….Riddhima hasn't spoken to me after that incident……..why am I feeling so bad about it……..why do I always want to talk to her………why does my heart yearn to see her smile……a smile form on her beautiful lips…..ruffling his fingers through his hair……..he looked up at the ceiling confused………he had never felt this way before……….

 

Armaan your strongly attracted to her………yes he thought…….i am attracted to her………like I have been attracted to so many other ……she is the new one on the list…….but I cant distract myself this time…….she has to be ignored………yes I will ignore her…….if I make  her feel special from my side then I will land up in a nice soup………noi cannot allow any woman rule my heart……..i will never ever allow that tohappen…….

 

Hitting the bed yet again…….he sighed…….Yes………I know exactly what to do now……and Riddhima Gupta can in no way make me feel guilty about it he muttered annoyingly……

"Ahem-Ahem"

 

Armaan looked over at Shanshank tapping his fingers on the desk…….waiting for him to say something rather impatiently……..blinking his eyes to get himself out of his thought land he looked over at Shanshank……well it was time for action Armaan……he thought…….it will change your life forever…….

 

"Sir I have arrived at my decision…….." Armaan said slowly…….

 

Shanshanl looked over at him carefully………I hope this boy doesn't disappoint me…….he cant make my master plan a flop……..no I think I have hit the nail rite on the head…….

 

"Yes Beta…….feel free to say whatever u want…….afterall I am father too" Shanshank looked over at Armaan smiling smugly……

 

Armaan smiled back equally gleefully before answering……..

 

"Uncle………I am ready to marry your daughter Riddhima……"

 

Shanshank immediately got up and went over to embrace him……..Ahh finally a ray of golden sun……..finally he would see his plan going successfully before him…….

 

Pulling himself out of the embrace……..Armaan smiled at Shanshank's act and chose his words carefully……..

 

"But uncle I have a few conditions first……."

 

Shanshank frowned over at him………signaling him to continue……

 

"Firstly……..after getting married Riddhima will have to come and stay with me……..i mean I will not shift to your house as a son-in-law………she will come with me………so …….."

 

 

Shanshank looked at him frowning………he wanted to keep them both in front of his eyes……..but anyways as long as things were going according to the plan……….such small compromises cud be entertained……

 

"Fine………she will come with u ……..anything else?" he asked sarcastically……..

 

Armaan smiled noting his tone………well here he was going to compromise in such a big way………then sasurji I will definitely make u compromise in some ways too………what did u think u will also keep me in your house as ur puppy dog……………no sasurji………I am now playing this game my way………your daughter will come with me were ever I want………as my wife…….. Armaan felt a shiver go down his spine as he thought of Riddhima being with him always……..

 

"Next uncle…….once we get married……..i want the papers to be transferred to my name……..bcoz that is the prime reason for this marriage as u have only made me see"

 

Shanshank leaned forward quickly on his chair………nohe cant put Sanjeevni only on Armaan's name……..he wud ditch everything and take the entire control………

 

"Armaan……..the papers will be signed at the time of marriage itself……..but u will own Sanjeevni along with Riddhima………u cannot take any decision without her consent……."

 

Nice move Sasurji……..u got scared that I will leave u and ur Riddhima rite?.......dont worry as long as I hav Sanjeevni………for myself…….whether with Riddhima or not I don't mind……

 

"That's ok Uncle…..and when is the marriage? Next month? And has Riddhima agreed.? I hope she hasn't been literally forced into all this?"

 

Armaan added feeling a tinge of guilt as his thoughts flew to Riddhima thinking about her condition…….

 

"Riddhima will give me her answer today at lunch…….but I assure u it will be positive……..and she doesn't have to know that we have arranged this marriage for Sanjeevni or that u Armaan is marrying her only for Sanjeevni…….I have told her that it was her mother's last wish to see her married to u………and I am getting her married to u so soon bcoz I will transfer sanjeevni to her name soon…….and then if she gets married later then it mite give arise to legal problems……..so she has been made to believe that u both are completing my wife's last wish……and I have also added that u quite  like her and are keen to marry her………so that she doesn't give u any problems…….."

 

Shanshank smiled over at Armaan……..as he proudly displayed his political skills……….Armaan smiled back half heartedly………he felt extremely bad …….he didn't know why…….

 

"Don't worry Uncle Riddhima will never ever come to know the truth……."

 

"Good Armaan…….i knew I could trust u…….and u both will get married tomorrow……..i have already arranged for a lawyer…….."

 

Armaan looked at him stunned………Tomorrow……..OMG……..so soon……NEVER……

 

"Uncle it cannot be so soon……..I mean Riddhima hasn't even said yes…….i haven't even told Rahul yet…….just tomorrow……..uncle why do we need to make such haste…….?" A shocked Armaan asked…….

 

"Armaan…….." Sighed Shanshank……….before coolly continuing…….."I need to give my answer to the trustees in two days……only if u get married tomorrow then can I present them my answer along with the papers……Riddhima……..i told u not to worry about her…….she is bound to say yes…….and mind u neither Anjali nor Rahul will be told about this till u both are legally married…….."

 

"But Uncle……"

 

"No arguments Armaan……I have agreed to all u conditions…….u should have no more issues…….be ready outside the court tomorrow morning at 10 sharp…….I have arranged everything with the lawyer…….once u get married then we will tell everyone……."

 

"But Sir he is my brother" revolted Armaan furiously………not tell Rahul the fact that he was going to get married the very next day……..being the younger one of the two…….he was getting married before……..at such a short notice………to girl he  barely knew ………Armaan found it hard to digest this……..

 

"I know he is your elder brother………So is Anjali……… Riddhima's elder sister……but I don't want any more delays in this……..informing them will definitely increase the complications I can assure u that……." Replied Shanshank coolly…….

 

"Tomorrow morning once u both sigh the marriage papers we can inform them……..now Armaan…….please relax……..be there at court tomorrow sharp at 10……Good day to u "

 

Armaan left the cabin in a frivolous state of mind………he coudnt believe he was getting married……..he gloated about the fact that he would soon be having Sanjeevni in his lap……..but at the same time and unexplained feeling of guilt crept into heart……..thinking about Riddhima…….as he closed the cabin door behind him……he decided to ignore this feeling……for how long could he ignore it he was unsure of………
