PART - XIII

inally it was the D-Day. The day they all were waiting for, their passing out ceremony. Happiness could be seen on their faces. All of them have done extremely well. Naina, Ali & Huda were tensed. It was rather their anxiety; after all they were competing for the Best Cadet trophy. And for the rest, well……. Alekh never cared. Though he was a big competition to three of them but still, he was not interested. Pooja & Yudi…..they knew there's no point hoping that they even stand a chance after their four highly competent friends.

Finally the results were announced. There was a tie for the first position. Naina, Ali & Huda were keeping their fingers crossed. But both Ali & Huda wanted one of the two names to be Naina….. And it was. But when the second name was announced both of them nearly had a heart attack…. It was Alekh. Ali was close second & Huda, third.
But considering that Naina had shown remarkable courage in these two years time and again and all the odds she has fought against, she was awarded the Best Cadet Trophy. She had done it. She was feeling on the top of the world but she couldn't sustain that feeling for long. Her parents hadn't come. Her father called up the previous night to inform her that they won't be coming as her mother was unwell. But still her eyes were looking for someone. She was expecting to see a familiar face over there but she could not find that. All the happiness that was there on her face faded away slowly. She looked disappointed. Everyone else was busy meeting their family members and dear ones who were there for them. But Naina was all alone.

But still there was a pair of eyes that was fixed on Naina. They followed her everywhere. They saw her anxiety before the results were announced, her happiness when she won the trophy, a glow when she was looking for someone in that crowd and now they could see that disappointment over her face.

Those eyes were moist to see her like that. She should have been happy today. They wanted to see her smile that wasn't there. Instead she was sitting all alone.

"Mission Accomplished sir" Naina was talking to herself. "Lekin aap mujhe congratulate karne bhi nahin aaye. Mujhe to laga tha ki aaj aap zaroor aayenge, yeh dekhne ke liye that I kept my word or not. But you didn't come" Her eyes were filled with tears but she was trying very hard not to cry.

Those eyes were still fixed on her. They couldn't see anything else…anything at all. Not even the person standing right behind until she kept her hands on his shoulder. He was taken aback.
"Caught you" She said mockingly.
"Yes you did" He answered with a soft smile & a heavy voice. He was relieved to see that it was just her & thankfully no one else.
