Chapter 2

PART – II

 

here was a complete silence…………everyone's heart was beating faster & louder than the usual, their eyes were fixed at a closed door in front of them that read "OPERATION THEATRE". Lot many things were going in each & every mind but no one spoke a word. They just hoped nothing goes wrong after this.

 

Suddenly the door opened & a doctor came outside. Everyone hurried towards him.

"The bullet was deeply penetrated in the abdomen. Next 36 hrs are crucial. We can't say anything before that. ………..we are moving the patient to  the ICU"

"Just keep praying" saying this the doctor left.

Dr. Shalini came out of the OT along with the stretcher & signaled the ward boys to head towards ICU. She went straight to Captain Rajveer. She said nothing……..but she looked disturbed, worried & helpless. Her face said it all. She herself didn't know what was going to happen next. They couldn't do anything but wait for next 36 hrs. They were already there waiting & praying for last 10 hrs & knew that they have to do that for 36 more hrs.

 

All the 5 cadets, Raj, Shalini & Neelu, who joined them after Yudi called up at home, assembled outside ICU. They could see her lying there still & unconscious. Suddenly Rajveer's phone rang. It was Brigadier Chandok. Even he needed to know what was happening over there. Rajveer didn't want to answer the phone & silently handed it over to Shalini. She told Brigadier whatever she could.

"Ok Dr. Shalini. But keep me posted."

"Yes Sir"

"And one more thing…..inform Captain Rajveer that I have already sent that file to military board & very soon Captain Navin will be free of all the charges. Cadet Singh was right…….Her Brother was not a traitor….He is a martyr…."

 

Shalini passed on BC's message to Captain Rajveer but he didn't say anything. He was still quite. But a tear rolled down his cheek. All the pain he was going through was so evident on his face. It was getting difficult for him to contain his pain within himself but he knew he had to. He tried to speak something but he could not. After a small pause he could manage to say only one sentence……."I have failed again Doc"….& his voice was shivering, weak & hardly audible………….& then unable to control his tears from flowing down he left. Shalini stood there watching him go. Her eyes were wet for the person lying inside in an unconscious state but her face had a faint smile because she could feel & understand the unspoken sentiments of her Best Friend & his favorite cadet.

 

Shalini sat there praying that nothing goes wrong & after almost an hour she saw Captain Rajveer coming back…he looked better, though he was still tensed. He sat next to her with his eyes closed……Shalini put her hand over his shoulders trying to reassure him dat everything is going to be fine………….he opened his eyes & looked at her .He could manage only a faint smile & closed his eyes again. Soon he was lost in some thoughts. Something was going on in his mind…….Shalini could see that!!! sanyamalhotra39127.3416319444
