Chapter 12

 Abhimanyu got home and had just slept for a few hours when his phone rang. His first emotion was irritation but then he realized it could be about Nikita.  He picked up the phone.

" Hello sir! Dr, Nikita yahaan apne kamre mein nahin hai," the night nurse stated frantically.

" Start  looking for her ! I am coming there now," he replied.

 The sound of thunder struck him as a warning that he better hurry in case Nikita had left in this weather. He hurried to pull on a sweatshirt and grabbed an extra jacket for Nikki in case she had indeed walked out into the  heavy rain.

Nikita had sneaked past a sleeping Atul. Anjali had night duty and he decided to stick around and keep Nikita company until Anjali was done. She needed fresh air. She wondered if even Abhimanyu had even taken her words seriously earlier that day. She wanted him to say his peace and they could move on with what was next. However she didn't think she could really move on without him. She really wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

She ended up on the rooftop.  The rain came down like cats and dogs and  ligtening occurred yet she stayed right where she was.

She didn't turn around until she heard heavy breathing and footsteps behind her.

 Nikita  turned to see Abhimanyu there. His expression was of relief and exhaustion.

" Tum yahan kya kari ho? It's raining like crazy!," he exclaimed.

 A sudden dangerous idea popped into her head. She got up on the ledge. She peered down as she breathed heavily. She was scared but she wanted to know if he loved her. She wanted him to say it. This time she wanted it to be real and she would reply right away.

" Nikki get down  from there!," he yelled.

She turned slightly.

" Kya karlo gaye, agar main nahin mani?," she inquired as she shivered.

" Dekho tum bahar par jao gayi," he stated.

She turned away as the rain drops kept coming down heavily.

 He knew if he said something else it could aggravate her further. He put down the umbrella and went over and pulled her down. He turned her to face him and grabbed her by the shoulders.

" Kya hoga hai tumhe? You  coded twice last week and  you want to get pneumonia?," he exclaimed.

She stood there saying nothing and first.

" I know about Alia," she stated.

 He  stood there stunned. How could she possibly know what transpired between him and  the first girl he allowed himself to fall for?

" How did you know?," he asked.

" Woh  jab main coma mein thi, usme humne shaadi karli thi. You told me about her," she stated.

  He turned back to face her.

" I don't know if Alia is alive today. However I know one  thing. Woh mera kal thi, kya tum meri aaj aur future bano gi?," he asked.

She nodded.

" Haan Abhi I love you, kyat um bhi mujhe se pyar karte ho?," she inquired.

 He smiled brightly.

" Nikita Malhotra I love you! Kyat um meri saathi ban gi?," he inquired.

 She smiled as he bent on one knee.

" Yes Mr. Abhimanyu Modi, agar aap mere saathi bana chahte hom tum main bhi aap ki saathi bana chahati hoon," she declared.

 He picked her up gently and  took back inside Sanjeevani. After she dried off , he  tucked her in.

" Listen  this time you better stay here,"  he hissed.

 She smiled like a child.

" Theek hai main kahin nahin jari hoon. I'll be waiting for you tomorrow morning. I want to go home so badly," she stated.

 Abhimanyu smiled and pinched her nose.

" Pehle tum theek ho jao. When you are better I will bring your discharge papers ," he promised.

 As he was about to get up,  she yanked his arm.

" Abhi kya tumari koi family hai?  My parents left me a long time back. I am  hoping we will have some of your family with us," she stated.

" I will tell you about them another time. Now Madam Nikki please get some rest," he stated.

She smiled and closed her eyes.

 Atul  spotted Abhimanyu leaving the room.

" Did you find Nikki?," he inquired.

 Abhimanyu nodded.

" She should be  fine. If  you want that red mark off your record you need to make sure she stays stable throughout the rest of tonight. If I find her room empty tomorrow morning, you'll face the consequences Atul!!"

" Don't worry Dr. Modi. Nikki will be here when you come in the morning," he stammered.

 Abhimanyu straightened his collar and looked at Atul firmly.

" Good. I will see you in the morning then Dr. Atul."
