Chapter 10

 Nikita walked into Dr. Keerti's office to give her report on her patients. After some time Dr. Keerti glanced at her watch.

 

"It's 1:30.  I have to meet Shubanker at the canteen for lunch. Also Dr. Modi asked me to give this to you," she stated.

 

Nikita was puzzled why would Abhimanyu give Dr. Keerti a note for her? She opened it ad was surprised. He wanted to take her out for a few days. He asked her to meet her at home by 3 o'clock.  She was elated. She thanked Dr. Keerti and headed home.

 

 When  she reached  home, she found Abhimanyu was busy talking on the phone. She simply smiled  and  tried to take  suitcase from top of the closet. She couldn't quite reach it and suddenly it landed on top of her. She struggled to take it off but in vain. She tried calling her husband for help but her voice came out muffled.

 

He didn't even realize she had entered the room. Nikita was getting very agitated and suddenly a surge of glimpses of her reality  came into light and then  everything went black.

 

 Nikita Malhotra suddenly awakened in a hospital bed. Her eyes opened wide as  everything blew  up to the way things  really were. She had either had just had a bizarre dream that she and Abhimanyu  had gotten married  or she had been in an unconsciousness state.

 

 Muskaan  was sitting in a nearby chair staring at her with teary eyes.

 

" Nikki tu theek to hai na?," she inquired.

 

 All Nikita could do was cry  realizing she had just been in a long dream like state. She really wanted to be with Abhimanyu but the  last encounter with him in his flat had been upsetting. He had insulted her and  kicked her out. He would probably never want to be with her now.

 

 Armaan and Riddhima  came into the room. They were happy to see her awake.

 

Nikita wondered how long she had been out.

 

"How long was I unconsciousness?" she inquired.

 

 

" Ten days,"  Armaan stated.

 

 Nikita was thoughtful. She recalled Dr, Keerti had said 1:30, she had been out for a week and half. Why did this have to happen?

 

" Leken main yahaan kaise ayi?"

 

 Her three friends exchanged glances.

 

 Riddhima  decided to speak up.

 

" Ten days ago, on his way here  Dr, Modi found you injured from a car accident."

 

   Nikita was puzzled.

 

" Why would he want to help me? Main toh..," she trailed off.

 

" He was simply doing his  duty Nikita. Don't expect anything from him," Armaan stated.

 

 She simply glared at him.

 

" I know that Armaan. The way we treated him, why would I expect anything from him? However I must apologize to him, so if you guys excuse me..,"

 

" Nikki  tu aram kar na.  You can meet him later'' Muskaan insisted.

 

 She ignored and started to get up. Armaan  stood in front of her and took her arm.

 

" Stop it Armaan! It's my turn to do for myself," she declared.

 

 

 As Nikita started to slowly walk away, Riddhima and Muskaan tried to stay with her.   She limped along a bit faster, as  adrenaline filled her veins. Her mind was racing with both disappointment and eagerness to make things  right.
