Part 8:
Kanya went to sleep that night but was really confused. She had strong feelings for Ranbir and they were building. She remembered how he came close to her in the taxi, how they danced, and how they were about to kiss in the rain.
After a lot of thought, she concluded that she would ignore that "almost" kiss and act on a very professional note with Ranbir.
And's that what she did. The next morning she got up and dressed and went down to the main conference hall. She saw Ranbir and he smiled at her. She gave a half smile and just turned around
K thinking: come on kanya you have to be strong. He's like your boss now
R thinking: whats wrong with her now? Did I go to far last night? I never meant to and I don't have any feelings like that towards her. Do I?
Soon everyone was seated at their tables and listening to the guest speaker.
Kanya looked around and spotted Ranbir. He had his serious business face on and was listening intensely.
Seeing this made her smile: he's so cute
At that exact moment Ranbir glanced over at her and caught her staring at him and smiling
She quickly turned around and stared straight ahead. She didn't look back at him through out the whole conference. But just had little peaks when he wasn't looking (lol)
At the end everyone was meeting and greeting each other.
Kanya was with Mrs. Khanna, an older employee in there office
She saw that Ranbir was approaching her and she began to get nervous. He walked straight up to her
R: Hi Kanya
K: oh hi Sir
She introduced him to Mrs. Khanna.
R: so what are your plans for today?
K: I'm really busy
Mrs. K: oh really kanya, what are you doing? You said no to going out with us from the office. And now your friend is asking to go out with you
K: no Mrs.Khanna he's not my friend. Just a business partner. More like my boss
She looked up at Ranbir and he looked hurt
He thought that they were friends but why was she being like this now?
R: Excuse me ladies
And with that he left. Soon Mrs. Khanna left to go with the gang to go site seeing
Kanya miserably went back up to her room. Again she felt so lonely
Shanaya had gone out with Aditya again. Those two were getting serious and were deeply in love.
Two more days passed like this. The conference in the afternoon and everyone would go out at night.
Everyday Kanya made some excuse to stay back at the hotel
Also at the conference she saw Ranbir. He never talked to her again unless everyone was standing in a group discussing the deal.
She felt bad that she was mean to him but she had to stay in her limit
On the third night of the conference kanya looked out of her hotel balcony and saw the weather was so beautiful. The sun was setting and there was a light breeze. She looked down and there was a small park that was empty
K: might as well go out their and get some fresh air
She put on a nice summer dress and grabbed a novel to read and went out
She scanned the park area for a perfect spot to sit. She just wanted to be alone so she could read her romantic novels. Those were the only things helping her sleep at night. She had already finished reading 2 while she was in Delhi.
She saw a perfect spot to sit. There was a huge fountain and around it a bunch of white benches around it. There were a few people sitting there but she just ignored them and went and sat on one. There was a guy sitting there with a hat on but he seemed busy reading some file.
After a while the wind started blowing and kanya felt cold. She put her book in her lap and just hugged herself for a while. The guy next to her had gotten up and left a while back but he returned now.
He sat back down next to her and stuck his hand out infront of her. In his hand was a coffee cup.
She glanced up at the guy and it was Ranbir
She hadn't been so close to him in so many days. His eyes were sparkling in the light from the sun setting. He had a smile on his face but she could tell he was still hurt from before.
R: here take it. You look cold
K: thanks
He turned back around and just started reading the file again
K: so why didn't you go out with everyone?
R: didn't feel like it
K: why
R: why what?
K: why didn't you feel like going with everyone?
R: I don't find that important to discuss with a colleague ( he said this in a rude and stern voice)
Kanya's eyes got all watery and she just kind of turned her face
Ranbir realized that he was a bit too rude
R: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that
K: no its not your fault. Its my fault
R: I didn't go out because.. well because everyone was kind of with someone. So I didn't want to be alone and decided to just stay in
K: oh okay
R: why haven't you been going out?
K: well I … I'm not….i …. I didn't want to be the only one alone. Everyone is here with someone or has found someone
She looks up at him and he's just gazing at her. She wants to get up and just kiss him but she holds back
K: so shanaya and Aditya are getting really serious
R: yeah I know they are. He's a good guy. He deserves the best
K: Shanaya is such a hard worker. I would honestly be lost without her. She's a really sweet and loving person.
They talk a bit more and then Ranbir asks her if she' d like to go out to a club nearby.
R: come on we're only here for a few more days. But its totally up to you. please
K hesitates but feels bad for being rude to him before: hey I'm your friend. You don't have to say please
R: okay get ready and meet me back down in the lobby in 30 minutes
K: okay
They get up and start walking towards the hotel. They finally feel comfortable with each other again. Ranbir is back at joking around with her and she just laughing at his jokes and making fun of him.
They arrive at the club in an hour. Some of Ranbirs friends are there and he introduces Kanya to all of them. Kanya is actually enjoying herself after so long.
Then one of Ranbir's friend, Prem, asks Kanya to dance
Kanya looks at Ranbir and notices that he doesn't want her to go but he can't say anything because that's his friend
K: sorry Prem, but my dance partner is already here
She takes Ranbirs hand and leads him onto the dance floor
They dance the night away and around 3 they leave. Kanya is feeling really comfortable with Ranbir and doesn't want the night to end. But he reminds her that tomorrow everyone is going to see the new site and have a picnic there.
He drops her till her room
R: Good night Kanya
K: Good night
Shes about to go in her room but he grabs her hand and pulls her back out
R: promise me something
Kanya's heart is racing. She has no idea what he will say
K: what?
R: promise me that you'll be my friend forever. And never ignore me like you did for the past few days
Kanya smiles and can see the innocence in his eyes
K: I promise
She gives him a light hug and lets go soon and does into her room. She leans against the door.
K: I wish I hugged him for longer and could have just been in his arms forever
That night she went to sleep happily. Just replaying the whole night in her mind.
The next morning everyone from the conference was going to the site where there new project was going to be build. But it was more of a picnic for everyone. Kanya decided that today she would do something different.
On this whole trip she didn't wear any Indian clothes so today she thought she should wear a nice traditional suit:

When she went outside the hotel she saw that the bus was full. She went to the event organizer
K: excuse me. Since the bus is full, how will I get there?
E.O: your name?
K: kanya
E.O: okay you were suppose to be in the bus but its full
K: are you serious? How am I going to get there now
All of a sudden a rose appears by her shoulder. She turns around and there is Ranbir standing there
He is just looking her up and down: Wow. I mean you look gorgeous.
He hands her the rose
K blushes: thanks
R: here you can come in my car with me
K: are you sure? Your probably busy
R: no im going to the site as well. But they told me the bus would get full so I ordered a car.
K is hesitant on going with him
R: come on yaar. If Shanaya is going with Aditya in a car
K: okay fine
She goes with him to his car and sits inside
R: you look really nice today
K: thanks
R: almost like your married
The smile drops off Kanya's face
Ranbir is laughing but sees that kanya is serious now
He stops and touches her cheek gently: I'm sorry. I was just joking
K doesn't want to be too obvious so she just plays it off: its okay. Come on lets go. I don't want to get there when its done
They have a fun ride there just joking around and telling each other stories from there childhood
The site is about an hour and half away but with each other it flies by so fast.
When they get there they have to separate and go to their own colleagues. Ranbir has to look at the site, while kanya and the rest of the people are enjoying at the picnic
Every now and then Kanya looks over at Ranbir and he looks bored. For the first time he can't concentrate on his work. He keeps looking over at her and she smiles. She has such a strong affect on him that he wants her so bad.
R thinking: But she is a really decent girl. I can't just tell her how much I like her. I have to make her fall in love with me. Wait am I in love with her already?
He's so confused and just waiting for the moment when he can sit and talk with her.
Finally he gets a break and heads over to where she is. She is getting up to go somewhere
R: kanya where are you going?
K: oh I was about to go to the lake over there
R: oh umm. ..can I come..i mean do you want....if you want..
K smiles: ranbir do you want to come with me
R smirks: well if your dying for me to come then I will
K: no its okay. You can stay here
And with that she pushes him slightly and runs off laughing
R: Wow. Shes so beautiful when she laughs. I just love her. Wait did I just say I love her??
He ignores his thoughts and runs after her
R: kanya! Kanya…slow down
K: you didn't slow down the other day
R: well if your going to be like that than I'll just have to catch you
He starts running really fast. Kanya looks back and sees him slowly catching up. She looses her balance and falls.
By the time she looks up he's standing there and soon falls to ground as well
There both laughing really hard
R: damn you can even run fast in a salwar kameez
K: yeah I'm talented like that
She jumps back up and sticks her hand out to help him up
R: thanks
He's about to take her hand but she pushes him back down and runs behind the tree giggling
R: Kanya don't even try to hide from me. I'm gonna find you and see what I'll do
He runs around and finally sees her trying to hide behind a tree. He slowly creeps up behind her and then pushes her up against the tree
There so close just like that night in the rain
He takes her hand and holds it but doesn't move his eyes from hers
K: Ranbir what are you doing?
R: I told you when I find you, watch what I'll do
He puts his other arm around her waist and pulls her close
They can feel the heat and passion from each others bodies. They want each other so badly but are controlling themselves. Kanya's hand that is free finds its way around his neck and now they are in the perfect kissing position
Ranbir is thinking if he should kiss her because he wants to so badly but he doesn't want to lose her respect.
He decides that he'll test her out and see if she feels the same way.
He tightens his grip around her waist and brings his lips to her cheek and gives her a gentle kiss.
Kanya felt like a lightning bolt just hit her and wanted his lips on hers now
He came closer to her lips, so close that she could feel his presence there. She shut her eyes, ready for the kiss
But his lips never ended up touching hers. But instead she felt him back off and even his grip around her waist loosened up a bit
Her eyes shot open and he was a bit further away from her. He had a look of innocence in his eyes and he looked like he felt sorry
R: I'm sorry kanya. I shouldn't have done that
He lets go her hand
R: I like you but I'm not sure you feel the same. I'm sorry
He removes his arm from around her waist and backs off
He still keeps gazing into her eyes. She looks hurt and if she lost something
He turns around and just stands there for a bit but then starts to walk away. Kanya sees him walking and wants to stop him
She runs and hugs him from his back
K: please don't leave me! I really do like you. Please don't go
He turns around and she hugs him tightly from the front
K: I'm sorry. Please don't leave me
He takes her face and holds it up so she can look into his eyes.
Then he slowly lowers his head and plants the perfect first kiss on her lips
Kanya now feels calm and complete. Like she was missing something and now its there.
He feels complete as well and he feels like shes finally his
They kiss for a bit longer and then break apart when they hear voices approaching
They get out of each others arms and fix their clothes a bit. Kanyas dupatta had fallen on the ground due to wind and now Ranbir picks it up and drapes it around her
K: thanks
They see that its just more people from there office heading coming back from the lake
Office people: Sir the bus is about to leave. You guys should head back
So now there surrounded by many people and they all walk back together. The bus is being loaded again.
Kanya is not sure if she should go on the bus with her friends from work or with Ranbir, since she came with him
She just kind of stands there and waits until the bus gets full
Ranbir notices this and laughs to himself: shes probably waiting for me
So he goes towards her and when she sees him she turns
R: kanya
K: oh yeah hey
R: come with me in my car. The bus looks full
K: okay. If your dying for me to come with you I will
R laughs: I actually am. So lets go
They walk towards his car and it starts to rain and its getting dark
K: its good it rained after. Otherwise the whole picnic would have been ruined
R: I know. Hopefully theres no thunderstorm
They leave a little after the bus does.
Kanya feels a little uncomfortable and Ranbir can tell.
They both have the kiss in mind
So ranbir breaks the silence and they start talking about movies and shows they like. They both like a show called Kuch is tara because there favourite telly stars Akash and Dimple are in it lol.
After about 45 minutes the car makes a weird noise
R: what the hell was that?
K: I have no idea
R: should I pull over and look?
Kanya looks outside and it's a really scary area. All she sees are trees and a single dark road
K: ranbir I don't know. Its scary outside
R: don't worry jaan your with me.
Kanya blushes since he called her jaan. He pulls over and steps outside
He's there for about 5 minutes and then comes back
R: it won't start. The engines messed up
K: what are we going to do?
R: I guess wait until someone drives by. Or until the rain stops and we can go look for help
Kanya takes her phone out: shit no network
R: yeah theres no network in the middle of this jungle area
They sit there in silence for a while
R: hey kanya look over there. Do you see some light
Kanya looks through the window and far and beyond all the trees she sees a light. Its coming from barn area
K: yeah I see it
R: so do you want to go there? Its getting cold in here
Kanya is freezing but she doesn't trust herself to go with him. What if she does something stupid
K: I don't know ranbir. It's a really scary way there. What if someone or something comes
R: kanya don't be scared. I'm with you
He holds her hand and gives her an assuring look
K: okay fine
He gets out of the car and runs over to her side and opens the door
She steps out and the rain is pouring really hard
R: come on lets go
He holds her hand tight and leads her through the trees.
Shes really scared so he slows down and puts his arm around her and brings her close to him
She feels better, warmer, and more secure.
When they get to the barn the door is jammed but Ranbir being so strong pushes it open after a few attempts
They walk in and observe the barn. THeres hay everywhere and theres a fire pit in the middle
R: you go sit over there by the fire pit and I'll look around for stuff
She quietly goes and sits down. Shes soaked in her suit so she removes her dupatta and places it on the side. She looks up to see what ranbirs doing
He found some fire wood and is getting a fire started.
He looks up at her and smiles. A sweet assuring smile that lets her know that shes safe with him

She just kind of stands there and waits until the bus gets full
Ranbir notices this and laughs to himself: shes probably waiting for me
So he goes towards her and when she sees him she turns
R: kanya
K: oh yeah hey
R: come with me in my car. The bus looks full
K: okay. If your dying for me to come with you I will
R laughs: I actually am. So lets go
They walk towards his car and it starts to rain and its getting dark
K: its good it rained after. Otherwise the whole picnic would have been ruined
R: I know. Hopefully theres no thunderstorm
They leave a little after the bus does.
Kanya feels a little uncomfortable and Ranbir can tell.
They both have the kiss in mind
So ranbir breaks the silence and they start talking about movies and shows they like. They both like a show called Kuch is tara because there favourite telly stars Akash and Dimple are in it lol.
After about 45 minutes the car makes a weird noise
R: what the hell was that?
K: I have no idea
R: should I pull over and look?
Kanya looks outside and it's a really scary area. All she sees are trees and a single dark road
K: ranbir I don't know. Its scary outside
R: don't worry jaan your with me.
Kanya blushes since he called her jaan. He pulls over and steps outside
He's there for about 5 minutes and then comes back
R: it won't start. The engines messed up
K: what are we going to do?
R: I guess wait until someone drives by. Or until the rain stops and we can go look for help
Kanya takes her phone out: shit no network
R: yeah theres no network in the middle of this jungle area
They sit there in silence for a while
R: hey kanya look over there. Do you see some light
Kanya looks through the window and far and beyond all the trees she sees a light. Its coming from barn area
K: yeah I see it
R: so do you want to go there? Its getting cold in here
Kanya is freezing but she doesn't trust herself to go with him. What if she does something stupid
K: I don't know ranbir. It's a really scary way there. What if someone or something comes
R: kanya don't be scared. I'm with you
He holds her hand and gives her an assuring look
K: okay fine
He gets out of the car and runs over to her side and opens the door
She steps out and the rain is pouring really hard
R: come on lets go
He holds her hand tight and leads her through the trees.
Shes really scared so he slows down and puts his arm around her and brings her close to him
She feels better, warmer, and more secure.
When they get to the barn the door is jammed but Ranbir being so strong pushes it open after a few attempts
They walk in and observe the barn. THeres hay everywhere and theres a fire pit in the middle
R: you go sit over there by the fire pit and I'll look around for stuff
She quietly goes and sits down. Shes soaked in her suit so she removes her dupatta and places it on the side. She looks up to see what ranbirs doing
He found some fire wood and is getting a fire started.
He looks up at her and smiles. A sweet assuring smile that lets her know that shes safe with him
