Geet had refused all those proposals which had come for her a year back without any second thoughts. She had chosen her career over marriage. She believed that was really not the time for her to step into marriage, she was too young for that. Marriage can wait for another couple of years, she had thought.
Just the day before she had received an appointment letter from one of the leading marketing company in Mumbai and she had accepted that as they were offering a good remuneration along with a good profile, she couldn't even break the news to her parents as they dropped that proposal bomb on her; what followed was a huge drama she sighed at a remembrance!
-Flashback-
"What! NO!" I yelled at no one in particular.
"I AM NOT f**kING GETTING MARRIED." I shouted while going upstairs towards my room. I was f**king angry at the moment, since my ever so sweet parents decided to drop a bomb on me this morning. Apparently, a few marriage proposals have come for me and my parents want me to at least go through them. But how could they do this to me, how could they even think on these lines. So, when at breakfast I was handed over a few envelopes I erupted like a volcano and throwing the envelopes which apparently has the pictures and bio-data of the so called certain prospective grooms, at the table, I stormed off to my room yelling out my response to my parents.
I ran to my room feeling very upset with my parents and with my own behaviourof losing my temper like that, but then I just couldn't hold it in me eitherwhen my parents brought that topic. They very well know that I want to getmarried when I am self dependent. They know that I first want to make my careerand I have only asked for a couple of years or so before I step into marriage,so why all of a sudden they flipping sides. I know they are not conservativetypes for that matter, who would want to marry off their daughter ASAP, so whythe hell they are asking to walk down on a path which they know I wouldn't justyet! I sighed frustratingly as I was unable to understand this sudden turn ofevents.
For a week my mom and dad somehow managed to convey that they want me to atleast have a look and kept on promising not to force me into anything. I kepton denying but if I'm stubborn then my parents are even more stubborn and notto forget I inherited my stubbornness from them only, so yeah, they do have anupper hand here. So, at last the sweet loving daughter in me surrendered infront of their week long persuasion.
"Do you really want me to see all of them? They are like 20 intotal." I asked my father incredulously as I was all set to analysethe pictures given to me.
"You can, if you wish to, I however have shortlisted 3 by myself to makeyour job a little easier, so you can just see these 3 if you wantthat..." my father voiced while picking out the 3 envelops from thepile and handed them to me.
I rolled my eyes, typically of him. "Yeah right, my wish... as if it was mywish to get married when I have just graduated and have my dreams of making abright career. Come on, peers who the hell get tied up in marriage at the ageof 22? But thanks dad for making my job easier as now I have to reject onlythree instead of twenty and that my daddy dearest I'd do gladly." I thoughtinwardly while taking the envelopes my dad handed me.
"Although I have shortlisted 3 but there's this one proposal which I likethe most for you but you do have options" he added and sat in front of mewaiting for me to open them.
I eyed him warily knowing my dad wasn't as innocent as he pretends himself tobe but he conveniently overlooked my cautious gaze. Way to go dad!
"Dad! Do you mind to let me be all by myself whilst I go through theseprospective grooms to be? I'd want my decision to be unbiased and notinfluenced by anyone or anything for that matter." I made him aware that heneed to leave me alone if he wants me to look through the envelopes.
"Now why would I mind that darling? I'll then leave you toit." Though he tried his best to be nonchalant but failed miserablyto mask his desire to be with me while I check out the bio-data but he knewbetter so left the room awkwardly. I sighed as I saw how successfully he'dpointed out his choice with a different colour of envelope.
As I opened the "envelope" my breath hitched in the anticipation toknow what my parents have chose for me; I hadn't had the heart to see thepicture yet so decided to have a sneak peek on the bio-data first.
I felt my blood froze in my veins as I read the first line below the namesection from the bio-data that caught my attention; it was his educationalqualification column. 'A college drop-out!' A gasp escaped my lips as Iregistered what it meant. He wasn't even a graduate, this can't be happening. My parents can't do that to me knowing how much education matters in to me inlife. Shit! Shit! Holy shit!
I was angry would be an understatement, I was no lesser than a molten lavaright now and no absolutely no explanation in the world can calm it. I had nodesire and heart to read any further and neither didn't I bother to look anymore to know about this so called prospective suitor my dad had apparently hadthought him to be and made dash towards my parents' room. There are going to bewords!
A huge scene was unfolded as I argued with them for considering such a guy forme who hasn't even bother to finish his degree. They tried to tell me that hewas a nice guy with great family. My dad kept tried to make me understand hispoint of view while considering this guy but I wasn't buying any of it. He alsotried to point out his honesty and truthfulness to me as he hadn't hid himbeing a dropout but all the logics just failed in front of my boiling anger andI told them plainly that I'm not going to be meeting any guy for marriage as ofnow. I told them I have no intention of getting married for another couple ofyears, so they can say goodbye to all these idiots.
I told them of my decision of taking up the joboffered to me in Mumbai and I told them I will be leaving for Mumbai next weekand would really appreciate if they can let me be in peace. Though my parentswere visibly disappointed with my decision but they did not voice out theirdisappointment and abide by my decision. I knew for now this topic is over. Idid apologise to my parents for my rude and uncivilised behaviour and I wasglad that my parents understood the reason for my outburst, however, my dad didadvise me not to judge a book by its cover and not to be so judgemental inmatters of life. I nodded understanding where he was coming from. I was glad wesort out everything and now there was no misunderstanding between my parentsand me.
-End of flashback-
Now she has come back to Delhi as her mom was apparently missing herlot not to forget her mother was practically shuttling between Delhi - Mumbai as shewanted to be with both her husband and daughter. Geet smiled thinking whatdrama her mom had created to make her come back to Delhi. She wondered how herparents will live if she was to get married! So, she had applied in somecompanies in Delhi and had done video interview and then she got a call fromKhurana Group of Companies to join as Sr. Consultant - Marketing& Clients Service. She was supposed to report in the head corporate office - KhuranaConstructions where the MD & CEO of KC sits.
She was to join the very next day so she had prepared accordinglyby taking early morning flight to Delhi so she can spend some quality time withher lovely parents. So, here she was at IGT, New Delhi. She smiled as she sawher dad waiting at the exit for her. She ran smiling widely towards and huggedher dad almost choking him. Her dad laughed seeing his little girl all overagain. She would always come to him like this. They parted and exchangedpleasantries and then headed off to where their car was parked. Driver settledthe luggage in the boot and drove off towards their house. They day passedsmoothly and quickly for them as Geet relished her favorite dishes cooked byher mom and enjoyed all the pampering which she had been missing being awayfrom home. The three retired to their rooms much later in the night and thatwas too very reluctant as Geet has to join office the next morning and she didnot want to be late.
Precap: "So Miss. Geet I presume you are hired as client service and marketing manager here." I nodded while he continued," so let me tell you one thing that KC and I can be a challenge to work with or in other words pain in ass but we reward hard work and talent. So, if you are devoted to your work you will never feel thework pressure or any stress but if you are a lazy bum then your ass is going tobe on fire every single day." He completed smirking as he might have seen megaping at him and his words. No boss and absolutely no boss talks to any employee that too on their first day of job. What the f**k is he?
