Chapter 16

Mehek had forgotten all about everything. She fell asleep next to Karuna ma. She woke up feeling her touch her cheek.

"Mehek, you have no idea how much I have missed you She said brushing her hair back with her fingers.

"Shaurya was never clingy towards me the way you were. You were always like a tail, following me asking me for food. She told her. Mehek closed her eyes. She had missed her so much. So much.

"I have missed you so much... Mehek told her placing her head on her shoulder.

"I never told him anything Mehek. I know you wouldn't want me to. But it broke my heart having to choose between the two of you She said.

"You know I want you choose... Mehek said without looking up.

"I knew you loved him Mehek, but I never dared dream of any of this happening. But when he told me he wanted to marry you. I was so happy, I felt like I would finally get my daughter back She said. Mehek looked at her. And her eyes watered. Karuna ma knew everything.

"Shaurya has achieved all of his dreams, he always wanted you to be the queen of his castle Mehek told her smiling. It was a dream she wanted to see come true. She smiled, she may have lost everything. But to see the people she loved doing so well, made her happy.

"If you never did what you did none of this would be here Mehek. You are the reason for Shaurya becoming so big.

"Karuna ma, I don't ever want him to know please. He would never forgive me for... Mehek could hardly tell her the truth but she wanted to. Karuna ma touched her cheek.

"Everything worked out for the best in the end you came back to me my sweet angel Mehek wanted to cry. Shaurya hated her. There was no way he would ever want to really marry her. But Karuna ma thought this was her happy ending.

This was all of their happy endings.

Mehek blinked and a tear ran down her cheek.

"Why are you crying? Karuna ma asked her.

"I don't know Mehek said, and hugged her.

"Everything is ok my bacha would you do me a favour...

"What is it?

"Go to that cupboard there Mehek went to it, Karuna ma directed her to open a drawer and pull out a box.

"Open it She said. Mehek opened the lid, a pair of white gold diamond bangles lay nestled inside.

"These are beautiful Mehek said, running her fingers on them. They were something she had once seen as a girl and told Karuna ma, that she would ask her husband to buy for her.

"When Shaurya gave me his first salary, I bought those. I know I shouldn't have but I wanted someone like you to marry him Mehek's hands shook.

"Come here Mehek walked towards her back and settled next to her.

"I don't... Mehek was unsure how to refuse them. Karuna ma, took her hands and slid them on her. Mehek looked at them and then back at her.

"These are the first gift you get from me as your mother in law. She said, Mehek couldn't speak. She was unsure what to do. Shaurya came back an hour later. He looked even more tired. His eyes fell onto her hands immediately. Mehek could feel him glower at her. She hugged Karuna ma, and turned her face away. He sat next to her.

His entire side was against her own. Mehek felt him reach out and touch her hands.

"Mehek moves fast, already stealing from the coffers

Karuna ma swatted his hand away from Mehek.

"Don't worry my daughter in law

"She is my wife first Shaurya said somewhat dryly. Mehek remained silent.

"Mehek would never marry you, if you weren't my son Karuna ma told him with a laugh.

"What's wrong with me

"You are a jerk Mehek said without thinking, Karuna ma started to laugh, while Shaurya glared at her.

"You are a princess He said back, Mehek raised her brow and looked at him as if to say really? he looked away.

Mehek woke up, Shaurya was standing over her. She stood up quickly and pulled her dress down, as it had rose several inches. Karuna ma was asleep. Shaurya grabbed her upper hand and pulled her out of the room. He took her down the corridor and held her against him.

"I can't breathe Mehek said, he loosened his grip on her.

"You will be staying here until mom gets better. You will pretend to love me or else it will upset her. And don't even think I will ever marry you. I will never tie myself to a gold digger

Mehek blinked, a tear ran down her cheek. She pushed his hands away.

And looked away. He hated her, and it hurt so badly.

"I am sorry for what it's worth She whispered softly. He grabbed her his hand held her around her waist. Her back was against his chest.

"I am not an idiot, If I had no money you wouldn't even be here would you Mehek. Don't think you can use those pretty innocent eyes on me and I will close my eyes and trust you again

Mehek heard a sound and one of the butlers stared at them in shock. Mehek tried to pull away from him but she couldn't.

"How many times have I told you not to show me your face unless I call for you Awara He said angrily. The butler disappeared down the corridor. Mehek tried escape, she felt his nose against her collar bone.

"Stop She protested, he let her go. And Mehek moved away from him.

"I wonder if my mother really ever found out what her daughter was like what would happen? He said, his eyes falling back to those bangles on her wrists.

Mehek looked at them.

"There is so many things you don't know Shaurya... Mehek said softly.

"What? Don't I know?

Mehek looked away. It was on her lips tell him everything. You don't deserve any of this. It is not worth the humiliation.

But her heart protested.

He grabbed her chin.

"There is nothing. Don't think I will believe anything you say

 4 months later.

Mehek found herself, sitting next to Karuna ma. She wanted to have a party. Shaurya spent most of his time working. But he kept his eye on her the entire time. Mehek knew he took advantage of the fact Karuna ma thought they were engaged, he would touch her and kiss her in front of her. Mehek found herself playing along with his stupid games.

Mehek heard him, but did not look up. His hands fell on her shoulders. Mehek's body stiffened.

She felt him lean in and kiss her cheek and then kiss his mothers. Mehek's cheeks burned.

Mehek felt like a doll, he never spoke of her debt or anything. Nehal had tried contacting her, but Shaurya never allowed her to meet her. He just forced her to stay her, staying with Karuna ma was amazing. She loved it. Karuna ma had fully recovered and Mehek could not help but fear Shaurya kicking her out.

She did not care for all of the clothes he kept buying her or anything else. All she cared about was being with Karuna ma.

"It is good you came home early He had been doing that lately, coming home earlier and earlier.

"I think we should decide on a date Karuna ma said.

"You are just recovered mom, I don't think we should be having a wedding right now He said it plainly.

"Nonsense, if you too wait any longer, I will only see my grandkids... Karuna ma looked like she wanted to cry.

"Karuna ma... Mehek was unsure of what to say.

"Well then the faster you get well the faster we will pick a day Shaurya said in a tone that left no room for argument.

"Karuna ma would you excuse us I want to show Mehek something Mehek followed him, wearing a short white dress. Mehek stumbled behind him.

"Have you been giving my mother ideas? He asked her, Mehek shook her head.

"When do I leave? Mehek asked him and he grabbed her wrist hard and pulled her against him.

Karuna ma saw them and covered her eyes.

He kissed her on her lips. Mehek bit his lip, yet he did not react.

She glared at him.

"Mom, come on you have to give us alone time He told Karuna ma, who was still blocking her eyes.

"Get married and I will give you all the alone time you need Karuna ma said.

"I am busy at work as well mom, I need to work to keep your princess in her castle He made another excuse. Mehek pinched him and he placed his arm around her waist and the tips of his fingers grazed the side of her breast. Mehek warned him with her eyes.
