Chapter 8

Mehek blinked his questioned, made her want to wrap her arms around his neck and never let go. Mehek looked away from him.

"It's nothing She said softly. He exhaled and stood up and stretched.

"Please don't think this is a thing now and that every time you get sick I will look after you. I only did this because I did not want my mother having to deal with a stubborn idiot who would not take her medicine His harshness usually would have hurt her but she could not help but welcome it. A fight, would that be the easiest way to end everything? She wondered. Mehek looked at his face, she had looked at it a million times, it was the face she thought of before she slept and the face she thought of soon as she woke up.

"Shaurya, you would be happy without me in your life right? She asked him, he rolled his eyes.

"More than happy He replied.

"I wish you all the happiness in the world She said so softly, that he could barely hear her. He went to the door and opened it.

"Why do I feel like whatever going on in that head of yours is nothing but trouble

He said as he walked out.

Mehek closed her eyes. How was she ever going to let go of him?

Mehek sat on the floor watching TV. When Karuna ma came into the sitting room.

"Mehek I made your favourite bindi and... Mehek did not feel like eating she just shook her head.

Karuna ma sat down next to her.

"Eat a little for me Mehek wrapped her arms around her neck and started to cry.

"Mera bacha asi nahi roti She said.

One week later.

Ajay came to visit her. He brought her a giant teddy bear and a bunch of flowers.

"Why have you not been coming to collage? He asked her. Mehek barely looked up at him. He sat down next to her on the floor and took her hand.

"Are you ok? He asked her.

"Did that jerk do something to you? When she did not say anything. Mehek shook her head. Ajay placed his arm around her. Mehek leaned and allowed him to hold her.

The week after Mehek's father came back home. She ignored him and stayed in her room.

It was close to a month since Mehek had seen Shaurya close, sure she watched him every morning behind her curtain when he left for collage and when he came back from work. sometimes she wondered if he knew as each day he would just walk in slower and slower.

"I heard him ask her out Mehek blinked trying to register Ajay's words.

"What?

"Shaurya asked, Shruti {please someone tell me her surname down in the comments} out

Mehek tried to think who was Shruti? Shaurya asked a girl out. The horrible stupor she was in suddenly halted.

The horrible green monster invaded her senses.

"And what does she look like? Mehek asked, unable to keep the curiosity mixed with jealously out of her voice.

"She is well perfect Ajay said, Mehek hit his arm.

"Well of course Mehek you are the most beautiful girl out there but...

"Where are they going?

"I don't know...

"Find out Mehek told him. She looked at herself in the mirror and cringed. She was wearing an oversized T-shirt and sweats.

Her hair was a mess.

What was she doing she half wondered as she ran up to her room.

She quickly took out, her best dress a pale pink off shoulder one that came several inches before her knees. She put it on and after washing and drying her hair, she resembled a human again. After she was done setting her hair it tumbled down her back in silky wave. Mehek put on some make up and went out the door.

"He went to watch some old movie with her Ajay informed her as Mehek put on her heels. He stared at her with shock.

"Mehek you look... Mehek did not even hear what he said as she saw Shaurya walking out towards the gate wearing semi-formal clothing. Mehek followed him, half regretting putting on such high heels. She peeked and saw him talking to an uber skinny, girl with light skin and light brown hair.

"She looks so ugly, I mean look at that outfit you call that fashionable? Mehek bitched to Ajay who just kept starring at her.

"And look at her shoes... Mehek cringed at the flats. The girls was dressed in the cheapest clothing she had ever seen. Fake name brands.

"Shruti is a topper Ajay informed her, Mehek rolled her eyes.

"Topper, my foot she looks like a joker Mehek said.

Ajay grabbed her by her shoulders.

"What did he see in her? Mehek questioned allowed. Shaurya took hold of Shurti's hand and Mehek almost barfed. Mehek walked towards them holding Ajay's hand.

Who still, kept starring at her.

"Shaurya what a surprise Mehek said following them. He turned and regarded her with cool detachment.

"So rich kids like to slum it these days don't you? He said half smiling, Mehek did not realise that they had followed them into a market. Shruti smiled at her like a witch. Mehek wondered if hitting her with her shoe would be too soon?

"What happened to my studies are my priority Shaurya now you have time for dates Mehek said so flatly Shruti's eyes widened.

"I have time off, I remember someone telling me once I should not study so hard and have fun a little Mehek had told him that. Well hinted that he should hang out with her not this witch.

"Why don't we have a double date Mehek offered.

Ajay looked even more confused.

"I don't think... Shruti was about to refuse. Mehek went in-between them and broke their hands apart.

"Come on lets go see this one She said pointing to poster of a movie.

Shaurya was silent the entire time. While Mehek sat in-between him and Shruti and Ajay sat on the other side of Shruti.

"Well I love movies Mehek said loudly eating popcorn.

"My mother tells me these days you just spend the entire day eating and sleeping Shaurya said to her. He was holding a big bucket of popcorn Mehek was eating from. Mehek had forced him to get caramel so that stupid witch would not be able to eat it.

Shruti looked pissed off but Mehek could not care for the life of her.

Mehek had chosen a comedy movie. Shaurya fell asleep half way in and his head was against her shoulder.

"This has been such a waste of my time Shruti said annoyed she stood up and left before the movie ended. She left her bag and Ajay being Ajay went after her to go give it to her.

Mehek stayed in the cinema after everyone left as Shaurya was still asleep. She did not want to wake him up and he looked so peaceful. She pulled out her phone and took a picture of him sleeping against her.

Then the sudden gravity of what she had done hit her. Mehek blinked.

She was making it harder on herself.

Mehek tapped his cheek. Shaurya blinked hazily and then his eyes focused on her. Mehek woke up. He grabbed her wrist and she fell backwards into his lap.
