A problem shared is a problem halved

Browsing the other candidates that had also applied for Mr Mehras role Prerna realised how far fetched her hope of getting the job she wanted really was.

“He looks Smart”

“She’s pretty and SMART”

“He even looks like Mr Mehra!

Prerna pondered on why on earth she thought she’d be suited for the job.

To top it off neither Rishabh or Mr Mehra had warned her  on what she’d be up against.

George who was watering and caring for the plants just beside Prerna on a side counter that afternoon smiled from under his glasses.

“You know Mrs Bajaj they say if you speak fondly to plants they grow to be even more beautiful maybe that’s what Mr Bajaj and Mr Mehra have in mind for you.”

That was a lovely way to think about it thought Prerna and  that was most certainly it.

She had wondered  if Mr Bajaj had entertained her conversation last night to stop it getting in  the way of their love making but George’s reasoning was much more attuned  to the way Mr Bajajs mind worked.

Seeing her all disheartened George tried to cheer Prerna up.

“Why don’t I put the kettle on and you can tell me all about this”

Prerna sighed closing her laptop.

“Please” she replied in need of break.

Whilst George’s glasses Steamed up with mist from their hot cups of tea. George have to stop to clear his glasses as Prerna explained why she wanted this job.

It wasn’t just a job it was the most prestigious in the whole company. A way to learn things she didn’t yet know but more importantly it would allow prerna to get to know her husband in a way that was unknown to her. Not a friend or lover, a husband, or a mentor a trustee.

George could see how  much this meant to Prerna.

“Oh dear he does look like Mr Mehra doesnt he” commented Mehra when he saw Prernas biggest opponent. Maybe all lawyers looked the alike !

“You know what this reminds me of Mrs Bajaj”

“Miss Kuki and her chess tournament. She never believed she could beat 3 time trophy winner the ginger chap but she did.”

“She did didn’t she” recalled Prerna.

“Yes” smiled George “By playing with him rather than against him.”

And whether George realised it he’d answered Prernas problem.

With wide eyes Prerna put two and two together and there was her answer. You are just wonderful George thank you so much she said before rushing off with her laptop.

“My pleasure”.. he said to himself with a smile finishing off his tea.

The next day at Bajaj offices”

“All set ?” said Mr Mehra  who was sat with a panel of other interviewers as Prerna walked in.

Prerna took a seat and opened up her laptop. Only she  wasn’t the only one applying for Mr Mehras role Mahesh had applied too. They were a duo, a joint application.  Mr Mehra did extremely well to hide how amusement from the rest of the interviewers who looked confounded.

..

Later that afternoon as Mehra entered Mr Bajajs office Rishabh looked from above his file to hear who Mehra had given the job.

Mrs Bajaj and Mahesh Sir.

Rishabh raised his eyebrow for a moment and then leaned back in his chair with a look of pride in his eyes.

..
