Chapter - 27

A few hours had passed already but sid hadn't returned, yet. As the night hit, roli started being worried for him. Sujata fed her dinner, which she had without much appetite. 

After having dinner the whole family sat in hall and were waiting for sid. Sid reached home at 10. Rajender called sid as he entered the hall. But sid behaved as if there were none in the hall and rushed upstairs to his room. 

"Don't know when this guy will change his attitude" sujata sighed helplessly. She seemed to be still mad at him. 

"Maa.. there's no fault of his in whatever happened. I was careless while doing the work" roli quickly defended sid. She even accepted that she was careless, which in actual she hated to hear whenever sid said to her. 

"It's not just about today, roli. This is how he is and it'll be only bad for him if he continues to behave this way. He never listens to anyone and does everything as he wish. He's just being irresponsible of people around him" sujata was truly angry on sid. But, more than anger, she was worried about her son's not so good attitude towards people.  

After speaking, sujata rose up and left to her room in disappointment. 

"It's just an usual thing between the mother and son. No need for you to worry yourself over it. Go take rest" rajender patted on roli's shoulder and said with concern before leaving the hall. Soon mataji too left to get some rest. 

After everybody left the hall, Roli was left alone in deep thinking. She then went upstairs and walked upto Sid's room. 

Sid, who just came out of bathroom, went to close the door of his room. Just then roli came there and he stopped closing the door finding her at the doorway. 

"What?" Sid asked, sternly.

"Got to talk to you" roli said, politely. 

"Not interested" sid was about to close the door again, when roli kept her hand on it to stop and got herself hurt. 

"Ahh..." Roli hissed in pain as her wounded hand got hurt when pressed it on door. 

Sid quickly left the door and held her hand to check if she ger hurt again. 

"Can't you use your brain atleast once in a while?" Sid scolded her for being careless even after being wounded. 

Roli watched him as he carefully examined her hand. His eyes were reflecting the undying care, which he would never express through words. She knew how caring and responsible he was. She wondered why no one was seeing this caring side of his. 

"Have you had anything?" Roli asked, concerned. Sid looked up at her and nodded as he left her hand, after assuring himself that her hand hadn't wounded more. 

"Go sleep now" sid said in his usual ordering manner as he turned back in to his room. 

"I said i got to talk to you about something" roli walked in and stood behind him. 

"Oh god... Just look what the time is now" sid got annoyed of her adamancy.

"That's the problem. It's too late and I'm really scared of going to my room now. And it's all because of you. Why you made me to watch that stupid horror movie" roli made an innocent face and looked at him. 

"You've watched it already so nothing can be happen now. Just go and sleep" sid turned to her and said, without interest.

"I won't get sleep now and I won't let you to sleep" roli muttered. 

"If you're really scared of staying alone then go to mataji's room and sleep" sid suggested. 

"Mataji is already asleep. I don't want to disturb her" roli quickly rejected his suggestion. 

Sid was already too annoyed that he literally lost his cool and said, bluntly "Well.. do one thing, sleep here itself". 

"Here?" Roli widened her eyes in shock. She wasn't expecting it. She just thought to annoy him by saying some random things so that he wouldn't feel hurt thinking about sujata's scolding. 

"Don't worry. I won't be making out with you now" Sid's straightforward reply almost made roli speechless. 

"I'm giving you 10 seconds, you can either go to bed or go to your room" sid demanded, domineeringly. 

Roli pressed her lips together as if cursing him and like an obedient kid, climbed on to bed to one side. While sid got on to other side.  

"Are you too going to sleep on this bed?" Roli asked, watching him lying on the bed.

"Actually, no. I'm planning on doing yoga now" sid replied, sarcastically. 

Roli fell silent at his reply and didn't speak anything for few minutes. She wasn't getting sleep. She felt that lighting in the room was too bright. There were two lights still on. She thought to switch off one of them. She looked around and found switch board at Sid's side. 

There was some distance between them. Roli got up and crawled to his side. She then scrooched to reach up to the switch board. As she moved further, her open hair fell on Sid's face, disturbing him. 

"What now?" Sid was super annoyed at the disturbance. 

Roli quickly got back and sat on bed and said "Switch off the light". 

Sid was in no mood to argue  so, he quickly agreed and did as she said. But, he switched off both the lights, making the whole room entirely dark. 

Roli got scared at the sudden darkness and she quickly jumped to his side and grabbed his hand tightly. 

"Why you switched off the lights" she yelled at him. While sid again switched on the lights. 

"Didn't you tell me to switch it off?" Sid gritted his teeth as he spoke. 

"I told to switch off one light, not all. Why you always scare me like this" roli hit him on shoulder as she made a face like crying. 

Sid closed her mouth with his palm and said "just shut up. If you utter one more word then I'll make you to watch horror movies all the night". 

Roli looked at him like a scary kitten. While he took his hand off and said "now keep quiet and sleep". 

Watching one more horror movie was far away, roli couldn't even think about it. She silently went back to her side and laid down, turning against him. Sid watched as she tried to sleep in silence. He then turned to his bed side and switched off one light, leaving the other one, lightning. 

Sid was used to wake up in the middle of the night to drink water. When he woke up, he found roli in deep sleep. He gazed at her delicate face as he moved near her. 

"Looks innocent while sleeping but once she wakes up, she'll be an annoying kid. And she annoys me alone as if she has any grudge against me" sid mumbled with a sigh. 

He moved even closer to her face but stopped just before his lips had landed on hers'. He again looked at her face and smiled at the thought running in his mind. But, his smile faded away as his eyes fell on her wounded hand. He carefully caressed her hand, feeling guilty and blaming himself. 

He again looked up at her face and without touching her skin, he slowly brushed off the hair falling on her face. He then bent down and placed a feathery kiss on her forehead as he whispered "I love you". 

If roli would hear it, she would've jumped up high to the sky. But, she seemed to be in her own dreamland. 

Sid, then covered her with the blanket properly before going back to sleep.
