Missing you

I’m so very sorry for taking so long, many things have happened on the work and home front since my last post. Not all good not all bad, what can you do. Hope you’re all well, hope this makes up for all the waiting x 

Missing you 

“It’s a deal Mr Bajaj”  

Prerna who just happened to be bringing a file from her cabin into his catches a pair of very content eyes on her husband.

Rishabh was a on a call to a very long standing rival of his. He seemed to have made a deal. 

Congratulations she mouthed and Rishabh nodded before leaning back in his chair continuing his call.

“only I’d like for us to do the formalities in person.” Added the opposition,

This would involve a trip half way around the world. Rishabh immediately looked into Prernas eyes, if he could make out even the slightest of reaction on this he’d go off that but prerna was calm on the matter her eyes gave away nothing.
At least not until she knew he  was wanting her opinion on the matter. 

“you should go” she said quietly.

Rishabh paused a moment as to make sure she was certain and then went back to his call. 

..

The Next morning 

“Pa we can’t sleep” said a little voice as Rishabh looked up from his newspaper in bed. “That’s because it’s 9:30 am” he explained.

The sun was shining quiet bright now which made the girls a little sad but they were still excited by the idea of more sleep 

“Sleep over?” Kuki asked sweetly ..

Rishabh smiled. 

The girls ran up into bed and snuggled up beside him.

Wrapping his arms around his girls was still the most heart warming thing in his life. 

With Sneha tucked into his neck he found himself running his fingers tips through her wispy  locks whilst Kuki seemed already flat out on his chest.

He may as well close his eyes for a little more rest he thought quietly. Especially as he was due to be away from his girls for the next few days.

Prerna who had bought Rishabhs morning coffee decided now wasn’t the time and would come back later.

0678485583, called out  Rishabh waiting for Kuki to repeat the number 

“06 45..88?” She said cutely getting all the numbers wrong. 

Rishabh smiled “Just press this button right here”

He said showing kuki the correct button to speed dial him whilst he was away. 

“Pa.. “ called out kuki as she looked at the phone curiously. 

“Yes” replied Rishabh who was stood in front of her.

“When will you be back?” Now that’s when Rishabh panicked. Either she’d be okay or she really wouldn’t. He held his breath whilst answering.

“10 days” he replied.

Knowing she  could count to 10 on her hands that meant it can’t have been that that long.

kuki nodded “Okay” 

Phew thought Rishabh, 

“Now where’s your sister” he asked.

“Playing peekaboo” Rishabh knew just where to find Sneha.

Behind his chair

That was her favourite hiding place 

“Found  you” he said softly looking over the back of his chair 

And Sneha giggled.

Walking around to join her and squatting to be at Snehas height he laughed with Sneha. When the smiling and laugher stopped Rishabh looked on at Snehas hazel eyes. They were adorable.

Aw she was the sweetest little thing but the one he worried about  the most and that showed in his eyes as he caressed her little cheek.

She needed him as much as he needed her. 

He hoped maybe she wouldn’t notice his absence if the others kept her distracted but Incase she did Rishabh took his handkerchief out of his pocket and tied to one of the straps of Snehas dungarees.

Kissing her forehead he let her climb his lap and pull at his hair the way she liked to do these days. 

..

That evening  Prerna walked into the porch  from the bathroom in her  nightgown  when she saw Mr Bajaj was still out working

Now the time had come she realised she would miss him more than she anticipated. 

It won’t have crossed his mind she though.

Kuki had her own speed dial to him, Sneha her momento. She’d miss him too. Not something she wanted to say out quiet like that.

Instead she turned up the light a little in the balcony to get his attention. 

“You should sleep, you have a early start in the morning.” She said to the back of his chair from a distance.

“I’ll be with you shortly Mrs Bajaj” he said reading in between the lines.

The way he played with words was very suggestive. That wasn’t what she was implying  but he he was telling  her how he intended it to be.

As Prerna opened her eyes the next morning she turned on her pillow to see Mr Bajajs side of the bed  empty. He’d left her a little piece of card - a note. 

Prerna picked it up to see his handwriting ..

“Love Rishabh ” it read and underneath was a phone number probably for emergencies she assumed. 

She smiled to herself at the thought of him.

She looked over to the bedside,  picked up her diamond ring the one gifted to her on their remarriage by Mr Bajaj and slipped it on her finger. Again another smile on her lips.

..

Over the next few days little reminders of Mr Bajaj had become important to Prerna.

His chair, passing his chess board or the aroma of coffee she associated  with him was all very nostalgic.

But then all of a sudden something little changed everything. 

“It’s missing”

“Surely it’s just here Mrs Bajaj”

Replies George looking around the kitchen 

“I’ll have search” he reassures her.

Prerna had lost her ring, misplaced it or she didn’t know what but she looked high and low for it. 

In the on suit, inside the wash basin, she even had all the staff looking and they wanted to help.

Kuki looked under the sofa 

Even Sneha searched high and low.

George looked in the laundry.

With Prerna getting more and more agitated her patience was running low, she was becoming temperamental. At the house help something unusual more expected of Mr Bajaj than Mrs Bajaj.

Seeing things going oh so wrong knowing she’d looked everywhere kuki dialled her Pa.

“Pa..”There’s a problem” she said to Rishabh who was just about to call to let them know he was on his way home earlier than expected. 

The search continued all day..everyone trying there best everyone almost knew that maybe the ring was gone for good. 

Obviously no one dare say it. 

There came a point where Prerna fell quiet 

Others kept searching but she was disheartened. 

“Mama “ said a little voice from the floor and Sneha looked up a Prerna with her big brown eyes. Prerna could see that Sneha had something in her hand. She perched on her knees to see Sneha bring out her little palm, inside it wasn’t Prernas ring it was as potato crisp, one of those shaped like a ring. 

It was the most sweetest of things that picked up Prernas heart. She kissed Sneha on the cheek “thank you beta” .. she said knowing little Sneha was trying to cheer her up. 

..

She wiped herself up and got back up again to look, the house was a mess now. 

“Look in the cupboard again George , What about in the study ..” she ordered. 

But a voice from a distance puts a stop to it all.

A loud “THATS ENOUGH”  silences everything in the house and kuki who had anticipated her Pas reaction takes her fingers out of her ears at the right time.

Hearing Rishabh Prerna all so flustered in thoughts of her lost ring didn’t expect him to be home looks up. speechless but still restless. 

She’d like to explain but she couldn’t interrupt Mr Bajaj of all people. 

“Thank you all it’s late please tidy up and get yourself home.” He said looking around at the mess in his house. 

Now the two of them were alone Prerna had a moment to look around and realise she’d over reacted. 

She didn’t know what to say, she was clearly upset. upset because she’d lost her ring or upset because she’s missed him. 

Or both ?

Feelings could be complicated that’s one thing she realised. 

She met with his eyes a little unsure of how she felt. 

“Where did you leave it last?” He asked In the same tone that he asked the staff to leave. 

“On the wash basin” she answered 

He looked at her silently as to say that’s where she should look again.

He was right.

As she moved to walk past him to go and relook l in bathroom she paused  to tuck her face into his chest.

I missed you see Said quietly..Sign that behind loosing the ring was actually just a lot of sadness around being apart from him. 

Wrapping his arm around her Rishabh smiled with a sigh.

.. 

elsewhere little hands reached to the wash basin in Prernas room and put a new ring just like the one that was lost on the wash basin.

Prerna would never know the difference thought kuki her fathers little right hand!

...

There it was on the wash basin Prerna put it on and turned to Mr Bajaj who was taking of his blazer.. rolling his sleeves. 

She felt a sense of peace now .. what a day looking up at him she did wonder

This isn’t my ring is it ? She asked 

I don’t know what your talking about Mrs Bajaj he replied ..steping towards her to wrap his arms around her and kiss her lips that turned into a smile that had been missing all day.
