Part 27
The next early morning, NK grabbed his complete potion and snuck into Khushi's room. It was still 5 AM so she was deep asleep. He walked lightly on his feet and sprayed the potion on her neck twice. Khushi shuffled a bit but didn't wake up. NK murmured a few enchantments before stepping back and leaving her room.
Just as he was walking back to his room, he noticed Lavanya's door open slightly. NK tried to fight the urge to peek in but he couldn't help himself. Sighing, he looked in to find her resting. Lavanya looked dead with her chest not even rising as anybody else's would but he knew better. After all, it was his fault she was a vampire now.
NK closed his eyes and continued his journey to his room.
Maybe some things truly weren't meant to be

The afternoon of the very same day, NK received a call.
"Hello" he answered
"Sir" his assistant spoke "Mr. Ahuja wishes to meet with you. He claims to have evidence of infidelity against his wife"
NK immediately grabbed a blue file amongst many other colourful files on his desk. He flipped it open and began turning the pages "That's great. Tell him to come meet me in my office"
"That's the thing sir. He said he's not free today. He has back to back meetings. The only time he could meet you is at the Montero nightclub at 9 since that's where one of his meetings is happening"
NK quickly scanned over a document. There was no way he was losing this case "Alright. Tell him I'll see him there and send me the address. I'll see you there"

"What do you mean it's not working!" Rohit yelled.
The witch pursed his lips "I can sense the girl but I can't seem to get a grasp on her" he rubbed his temples "There's a chance that witch you were talking about has placed his spell on her"
"What do we do now?" Rohit growled.
"Well" the witch rubbed his chin "Would you say the witch practices his magic on a regular basis?"
"I don't think so. From what I know, he stopped practicing when his wife left him"
"Well that explains why I can still sense her then" the witch said with a smirk "He probably can smell the potion on her but because he doesn't practice his magic regularly, he's probably forgotten the scent of certain potions like the one we gave to the girl"
Rohit frowned "So what are you saying?"
"Because we placed our potion on her first, the protective potion the other witch used will only work for a certain period of time before it wears off" the witch explained "The witch probably won't realize that. That's when we can strike"
"How long?" Rohit asked "Arnav is coming out in less than 2 weeks. I have complete faith that he'll pass whatever test the judge put him up for. The b*stard has unbelievably good luck"
The witch shrugged "I say a week?"
"Fine" Rohit said "But if you don't manage to have her under your control within the week..." his fangs shot out "You'll be paying the price"

Arnav shot up when he heard loud gasping and coughing. He turned towards Alisha. Her eyes were bulging and she was short on breath.
Arnav immediately raced over to her side. She tried to shrink into her corner but her health objected.
Arnav, on the other hand, immediately recognized her symptoms "You have asthma" he said "Where's your inhaler"
Reluctantly, she pointed to the side where her small white shoulder bag lay. Arnav grabbed it and quickly found it. Pushing away her shielding hands, he puffed her inhaler to her.
Alisha greedily held on to his hands and inhaled. She slowly calmed down and her coughing grew to a minimum. She closed her eyes and leaned against the wall.
Arnav turned towards the locked door, knowing the people on the other side could see everything "She needs water" he said.
Shortly, a small sliding door near the bottom of the door opened. A glass of water was put on the water and the sliding door closed.
Arnav grabbed the glass and gave it to her "Here" he said "You need this"
Alisha took the glass from him and drank half of it before hesitantly acknowledging him "T-Thank you" she whispered.
He gave her a small smile "No worries" he said before he pushed the tray of fresh food towards her "You need to eat too"
She looked up at him "Why are you here?" she asked.
Arnav looked at her taken aback. He blinked and sat on the ground opposite to her "I used my powers on my wife. I hid the truth from her that I am a vampire. I also drank from her many times"
Alisha chewed on her bottom lip "And now you're here trying to prove that you can control yourself?"
He nodded "I want to prove that I can be with her without harming her"
"You love her?"
"Very much so" he smiled gently "I was under a curse once. She freed me"
Alisha cast her eyes down "I never knew vampires existed" she said quietly "I probably won't remember when I leave. I would have never come here had my husband not been in the hospital"
"What's wrong with him?"
Alisha wiped away a tear "He's facing pancreatic cancer. Stage 3"
"I'm so sorry" Arnav whispered, feeling sad for her.
She put up a fake smile "He's always so positive even when he's feeling the weakest. It's one of the things that made me fall in love with him" she sighed "We both come from middle class families. We don't have much money for his therapy. When I found out how much money they'd be giving me for coming and staying here, I had to do it. I need him" she burst into sobs "I have nobody but him. He doesn't even know I'm here. I can't lose him. W-We didn't even get the opportunity to begin a family together" she took the handkerchief Arnav offered her from his pocket "We planned so many things together. I-I won't be able to live if he dies"
Arnav grasped her hand firmly "It's going to be alright. I'm sure once the two weeks are over, you can get back to your husband and help him recover. Then you'll finally be able to have that family you wish for"
"Thank you" she whispered.

Khushi and Lavanya were having fun throwing pop corn at each other rather than watching the movie when they saw NK rushing down the stairs in formal attire and a briefcase in his hand.
"Where are you going?" Khushi asked.
"I have to meet a client in a club" he answered, putting on his shoes.
"Wait!" Lavanya gasped "You have to take us with you"
He frowned "You two should stay home"
She rolled her eyes "Khushi needs to keep her mind occupied to keep her thinking about you-know-who"
Khushi frowned "I know you're talking about Arnav" her face almost immediately fell "I wonder how he is or what he's doing"
"See" Lavanya hissed.
NK sighed "Alright. Go get ready you two"
Lavanya squealed and grabbed Khushi, dragging her up the stairs.
When both of them came down, they were dressed and ready to go. However, as lovely as Khushi looked in her orange ankle-length dress, Lavanya held his attention with her neon blue dress ending just below her knees finishing with her killer heels. She always did dress to capture everyone's attention...
His phone broke him from his reverie. He shook his head and answered it "Yeah?"
"Sir are you here yet?"
NK glanced at his watch and swore "I'm on my way" he gestured to the ladies "Let's go"
**************************************
NK left the girls at the bar and disappeared with his assistant mumbling something about it being too loud to have a meeting.
Lavanya ordered Khushi orange juice and red wine for herself, making sure to keep an eye on the bartender as he made their drinks.
"Thoughts?" she asked Khushi as she gave Khushi her drink.
"Huh?"
"On the club? You like it?"
Khushi smiled faintly "I remember when Arnav took me to a club on our first date. He had protected me from Rohit but back then I had argued with him over it because I thought he had overreacted"
Lavanya sighed "Am I even helping you from thinking about him?"
Khushi shrugged "Sometimes" she admitted "But it's near impossible for me to stop thinking about him. He's out there somewhere trying to fight for us while here I am sitting at home unable to do anything"
"Arnav has to do this himself" Lavanya said "But trust me. If he can survive a curse, he can definitely survive an itty bitty test. I have full faith in him"
Khushi smiled "He's amazing, isn't he?"
Lavanya chuckled "Of course you'd say that. You have those love tinted glasses on. I'm afraid they may never come off"
"Don't act as if you're not wearing them" Khushi countered "I know you love NK. It's written all over your face"
Lavanya immediately looked away "I..I.."
"What if one day NK finds someone else?" Khushi asked gently "What would you do if he moved on with someone else?"
Lavanya's heart skipped a beat and her face turned red in fury and jealousy as she imagined him with another woman.
"Come back to me, Lav" he whispered, gently.
"When you graduated medical school, I was so proud of you" he whispered "I still am"
"I'm done waiting for you. I thought maybe if I showed you that I still loved you, you would come back" he sighed "I can't do this one-sided love anymore"
"I'm done Lavanya," he said, before opening the door and walking out.
"No" she whispered, "He wouldn't..."
"Who wouldn't what?"
Lavanya jumped up in her seat when she heard the cause of her misery "Y-You're done?"
NK raised a brow "It's been half an hour. Besides, I only needed to collect some evidence for my case and talk it over with my client"
She nodded and sipped on her drink.
NK slid in the seat next to her "A scotch for me" he said to the bartender.
"And what about me?" a sultry feminine voice asked.
They turned to find a young woman who appeared to be in her mid twenties. She wore a short bright red dress with black pumps. Her face was flawless and lips the colour of sin.
She smirked at NK and gave him her hand "Name's Monica"
NK politely held her hand and nodded "Nice to meet you Monica. Would you like a drink?"
"Oh yes please" she said, sliding into the seat next to him "I'll take a martini"
Lavanya snorted "You think you'll be able to handle it?" she said, not bothering to hide her dislike of Monica.
"Oh I can handle a lot of things" Monica replied, winking at NK "She your girlfriend?"
NK sipped his drink "No" he said.
"Wife?"
He clenched his jaw and threw back his scotch. He slammed the glass on the counter, surprisingly not breaking it "No" he said, with a hard edge.
Lavanya's heart sank. Yes it was the truth but he didn't have to tell her. She looked at Khushi for help who in return gave her a I-told-you-so look.
"So" Monica continued. She fingered his jacket "You're available?"
NK took a full minute before he replied "Free as can be"
"She doesn't need to know that NK" Lavanya finally voiced.
He, however, didn't reply to her. Neither did he give her any indication that he heard her. NK turned completely towards Monica, giving Lavanya his back.
"Why do you want to know?" he asked.
"I'm a smart girl" she replied "I can tell a good man when I see him. I would hate for you to be snatched up by someone else" she knocked back her drink and leaned towards him. Taking a chance, she slid her hand inside his jacket "Do you think I'm worth it?"
Lavanya never prayed for anything but this time she did. She prayed NK would reject her advances and suggest they went home. She prayed NK didn't find Monica pretty. She prayed NK hadn't really meant it when he said he was done with her...
"Do you have a room here?"
No.
He couldn't have asked her that. She must have misheard him for sure! There was no way-
"Yes!" Monica squealed. She grabbed his hand "You and I are going to have one hell of a time"
Lavanya immediately grabbed his other hand "You can't leave with her!" she commanded.
NK immediately shook off her hand, ignoring her hurt look "Why not?"
"B-B-Because! Because who's going to drop us home!" she struggled.
NK fished his keys out and threw it on the counter "You know how to drive"
Just as he turned to leave with Monica, Lavanya called him out again desperately "W-We need to take care of Khushi!"
He scowled at her "You are more than capable and you know it"
"NK...." she stared at him, pleadingly "Don't..." she whispered.
NK looked at her briefly "I'm done" he said before he turned to Monica "Let's go"
She giggled "I'm going to rock your world. You'll be begging for more before the night is even over"
And that's how Lavanya watched as the love of life disappeared into the crowd and up the stairs into a room with another woman that wasn't her...
