Khushi groaned. Her head felt heavy. It also hurt from hearing the loud irritating beeping noise coming from near her. She tried to open her eyes but they felt so heavy. Annoyed, she twitched her almost numb fingers.
She heard a male gasp "Khushi?" she heard a familiar voice. Arnav? "Khushi, if you can hear me, make any sort of movement"
In response she twitched her fingers again. He must have noticed because he rushed away telling her that he was going to bring Lavanya over. Why would he bring her over?
With a newfound burst of energy she finally opened her eyes. She looked around. She was back at the castle in their bedroom.
The door opened. Arnav and Lavanya rushed in.
"You're awake!" Lavanya exclaimed "Thank goodness. I knew you'd pull through" she grabbed her stethoscope "Let me just do a quick examination"
While Lavanya helped her sit up, Khushi couldn't help but notice Arnav who was leaning against the wall with his eyes trained on her. She glared at him. She hadn't forgotten anything. He, however, remained emotionless.
Lavanya quickly finished up and smiled at her "Alright. Everything looks good. Now tell me what is the last thing you remember"
Khushi pointed at Arnav "Wanting to get away from him as far as possible"
Lavanya winced "Umm let's be more descriptive. What do you remember after your fight with Arnav" she asked.
Khushi frowned. After the fight? She just remembered slapping Arnav and him slamming the door in his departure. She could not remember how she reached the bedroom. Did she fall asleep?
Arnav must have noticed her confusion because his face softened. He came over to the bed and sat next to her "Khushi" he said gently "Do you remember Rohit coming into the house after I left?"
Rohit? When did he come? In fact what did he have to do with anything? She shook her head at him, confused.
Arnav sighed. He looked at Lavanya. They must have had a small silent conversation because she nodded at him and left, quietly shutting the door behind her.
Khushi looked at Arnav "What's going on? Why am I still here? I want to leave"
Arnav enveloped her hands into his and looked at her "Khushi. You were in a coma for four days"
"A coma?" Khushi squeaked "What...what happened to me?"
He sighed "Khushi, when I left, Rohit must have come soon after and then kidnapped you. He took you to a cottage and tried to bury you alive"
"What!" she exclaimed, pulling her hands away "Why would he do such a thing?"
"Rohit hates me" he answered "He knows you are special to me which is why he tried to hurt you"
"But why can't I remember anything?"
Arnav grasped her hands again "Close your eyes Khushi"
Khushi did as told. A series of images flashed as if it were a movie from Arnav's point of view. She saw him, Lavanya, and another man run into a cottage and then find Rohit with her in his arms. She saw him throw her into the water and then disappear. Arnav jumped right into the water with her and pulled her out but then shortly she turned into a...mannequin? She saw the trio performing some sort of prayer with candles and sand. Then the ground behind them began glowing. They dug and pulled out a coffin...with her inside it.
Khushi opened her eyes, gasping for air. It had felt as if she went through a rollercoaster. She looked at Arnav shocked "How? How did you do that?"
He gave her a sad smile "Khushi...I haven't been fully honest with you"
She scoffed and pulled her hands away "I can see that but what can I expect since I didn't even know I was your mistress"
Arnav grabbed her hands with one hand and used the other to force her to look at him "You are not my mistress Khushi. Do you understand? Our marriage is in every way legal. You are my wife"
She pulled her face away "Then who was the woman in the picture?"
He looked down "I said you are my wife but not my only wife in my existence"
Khushi frowned "What's that supposed to mean?"
He closed his eyes "Khushi...I'm a vampire"
She widened her eyes and then scowled at him "You couldn't find a better excuse?"
Arnav sighed "I knew you wouldn't believe me"
He then grinned at her. At first she was confused and a bit furious at how he could be smiling during this discussion but then she saw his fangs elongate.
She immediately moved away from him "What the hell? What kind of joke is this?"
He moved towards her "I'm a vampire Khushi. I'm supposed to live forever. I have powers such as reading minds, moving fast, and other sorts"
"You're a sicko!" Khushi screeched.
She hadn't known her husband was a lunatic! If she had then of course she wouldn't have married him! In fact she wouldn't have stayed another day in the castle. Where was the nearest mental hospital! Was Lavanya in on this?
Arnav grabbed her before she jumped off the bed. He dragged her on to the bed and hovered over her "Khushi just listen-"
She hit him "Get off me!"
Arnav grabbed her flailing arms and pushed them to the side of her head "Khush-"
"I will scream so har-"
Arnav slammed his lips on hers, capturing anything she would have further said. At first she struggled. Since her hands were held down, she decided to use her legs to hurt him. He, however, was like an immovable wall. He plunged his tongue into her mouth and took control. Khushi eventually gave up against his kissing skills. He was one heck of a kisser. He let go of her hands which she ended up using to wrap around his neck. She moaned, kissing him back.
Did it make her a mental patient too if she was kissing one?
Arnav slowly pulled away, keeping minimal distance between their lips in case she needed another dose of kissing "Now hear me out" he said gently "I'm not crazy. You're not crazy. Nobody's going to a mental institute"
Mental institute? Had she said that out loud?
He chuckled "You did not say that out loud"
Khushi immediately pushed him off "Did you just...?"
He nodded "I told you. Reading minds is one of the powers I have"
Did that mean throughout their marriage he had known her dirty thoughts whenever it came to him?
He laughed "Yes"
She turned red "Wait. So you're actually a vampire? I thought they didn't exist"
Arnav nodded "I am one. Humans aren't supposed to know about us. They would probably try to end us since technically they are our prey"
"P-prey?" she stuttered. She was married to her predator?
He grimaced "I probably shouldn't have used that terminology"
"But what do you mean?" she urged.
He hesitated "We...drink blood"
Of course that was one of the well known facts about vampires but to hear him say that made her feel scared and uncomfortable.
"Did...did you ever drink from me?" she couldn't help asking.
He winced "Khushi...I..."
She shook her head "Tell me the truth"
"I...did" he admitted.
"How many times?"
"Many" he pressed his lips together "Those times when you had a difficult time getting up from bed or just felt tired was when I took more than necessary"
Khushi moved away, her fingers immediately going to the marks on her neck. She had thought it was some sort of skin reaction and had been planning to ask Lavanya about it.
"So you'd been drinking from me this whole time" she stated "Why can't I remember anything?"
"I...I would hypnotize you into falling into a deep sleep" he said looking away.
Khushi looked down, unsure how to process this new information about the man she'd vowed to spend the rest of her life with. She loved him, that she had known for a little while but was her love strong enough to accept him for who he was?
"The wife" Khushi recalled "Tell me about her"
Arnav stood up and walked towards a window. He looked outside "She's my ex-wife. She's dead. She committed suicide"
Khushi gasped. She stood up from the bed "Did...did you love her?" she asked.
He shook his head "I didn't. It was an arranged marriage. I had only known her for a short while before I left for the military"
"Military?"
He chuckled "I forgot to tell you. I was born in 1857"
"1857?" Khushi repeated shocked.
He nodded "My mother had arranged my marriage to Sheetal Sangarah"
Flashback
"Arnav dear" Ipshita called out for her son.
"Yes ma?" he said politely.
She put her hand on his shoulder and showed him a photo "What do you think of her?"
He looked at the picture and immediately recognized Sheetal. She lived only a few houses away with her mother who was his mother's best friend.
"Sheetal?" he said confused "What about her?"
"How do you think she'd be as a wife?"
Arnav looked at his mother appalled "Her? I mean no offence mother but I've never considered her for marriage"
Ipshita waved him off "You've never considered anyone for marriage" she pointed at the picture "Now she would make an excellent wife for you and a great daughter in law for me"
"But mothe-"
She raised her hand to stop him "That's enough now Arnav. You are 27 years of age, an excellent time to get married. I have already talked to her and her mother. You will marry her if you wish to make me proud"
Flashback Ends
"And that was my biggest mistake" Arnav said, a faraway look on his face.
