After calling it quits from the entertainment business, Zaira Wasim often makes it to the headlines for posting her opinions over socio-political issues on social media. In her recent tweet, she stirred up a storm on Twitter after she used a verse from the holy Quran as a reference to ‘locust attack’ and related it to people’s arrogance.

Her tweet read: “So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood: Signs openly self-explained: but they were steeped in arrogance- a people given to sin -Qur’an 7:133” (sic)

Well, her controversial tweet did not go down well with many users on the Internet, who slammed her brutally for justifying the locust attacks. One user wrote, “Well She just used a Quran’s verse to Justify Locusts attack on a country which offered her an opportunity in cosmopolitan city. I will again say, The Source of Hate & bigotry is something else, Education and Secularism can never become the answer to radical Islamism.”

“If one wonders how does a millenial who was offered an opportunity in uber cosmopolitanism, end up with so much bigotry and hate, she is mentioning the source also” another tweet read.

After facing a massive backlash over her controversial tweet, Zaira has now deleted her Twitter and Instagram account.

Zaira Wasim had taken the whole film industry and fans by shock when she suddenly announced her disassociation from films saying she was not happy with the line of work citing that it interfered with her faith and religion. She had made her decision public and shared a long detailed note on her social media. While some head honcho’s from the industry respected her decision and showed support, some others criticized her for letting go of the golden chance.

Meanwhile, Zaira was last seen in the film, The Sky is Pink, opposite Priyanka Chopra, and Farhan Akhtar. Based on a love story of a couple, who lose their daughter to pulmonary fibrosis, a serious immune disease, the film released in 2019.

While she may be away from the movies, she often makes headlines for her controversial tweets.
