Why The Success Of 'Kota Factory' Is As Surprising As A Genuine Step Ahead

It seems that the 'niche content' bar can be broken...

The revolution that the introduction of the digital platform has brought in has mostly been a boon but at times, in the plethora of shows and films that are on display, it is easy for the standout ones to get missed. It has occurred with several presentations in the past but obviously, they would rather have it be on a platform and not be seen as opposed to not be seen at all, isn’t it?

There are some shows that do get desired recognition but are mostly considered to have a niche appeal. That means having a certain viewership but not connecting to the masses of even a digital service. There is no harm in that but it is only a couple of times that a particular show or film arrives that goes beyond all of that.

The latest example of that if TVF’s The Kota Factory. I wrote the show’s review when the first episode of the series went on-air and now after its series finale out, the show is currently one of the most successful ones on the block. Here’s why I think the rage of the show is pleasantly surprising and a step ahead for the viewers.

New Horizons

The Viral Fever (TVF) is undoubtedly one of the flag-bearers of the explosion and acceptance of digital content among viewers over the years. But apart from the channel’s initial triumphs, it has been losing out momentum recently (barring some sketches). When Kota Factory’s trailer was released, it looked more promising than ever especially with the treatment of black-and-white cinematography. The show did appear as a winner but again, it was predicted that the show will only click with a section of the audience. That wasn’t the case and new horizons were explored with the show’s first episode and the ones that followed.

The Biggest Victory

Many would still assume for TVF’s Pitchers and Permanent Roommates to be the channel’s biggest success stories, both in terms of popularity and statistically too. However, Kota Factory has passed all that rather surprisingly. Even though both Pitchers and Permanent Roommates have been shifted to only be available on TVF Play and not on Youtube, the episodes did not cross anything exceeding 8 million views on the latter. But Kota Factory’s first episode has managed to clock over 9.5 million views and counting. Even the follow-up episodes have averaged over 6 million views at least which is a rare feat in today’s times.

The Breaker of ‘Niche’

Even though I loved the first episode of the series the day it was released and expected it to be a success but I had my doubts of it being as accepted as it is currently. I most definitely did not anticipate the show to go on become the mammoth victory saga it has become right now. This is yet another reminder for us and everyone out there how good content, if given a chance triumphs over anything and everything.

Here’s to several more shows like Kota Factory who are notable to either get the eyeballs they deserve or still under production.
