Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri recently expressed his sharp criticism of singer Jasleen Royal's performance as the opening act for Coldplay during their Mumbai concert. While the UK band performed as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, Jasleen's set received mixed reactions from the audience, especially on social media. Agnihotri, known for his outspoken views, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts, slamming what he perceives as the growing trend of valuing social media popularity over raw talent.
Agnihotri posted a video of Jasleen's performance and remarked, “The audience is more sureela than these auto-tuned, Instagram-generated singers.” He further questioned whether Jasleen would have had the opportunity to audition for even a local singing contest if she hadn’t built such a strong following on Instagram. He emphasized that “follower count over talent” has become the norm in today’s entertainment industry.

One user pointed out that Jasleen was given the opportunity due to her social media influence, while many others remain waiting for such chances. Another user countered that while there are talented singers, Jasleen might have been nervous during her performance and deserved a break from the harsh criticism she has been receiving.
Jasleen Royal, renowned for songs like "Ranjha" and "Din Shagna Da," performed as Coldplay’s opening act for three consecutive nights in Mumbai. Despite facing public scrutiny, Jasleen has gained a significant fanbase and continues to be a popular figure in the Indian music scene.
Meanwhile, Vivek Agnihotri is preparing for the release of his new film The Delhi Files, which will hit theatres on August 15, 2025. The film is produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and Pallavi Joshi.
