Virat Kohli credits Anushka Sharma for backing him always: 'It’s something you can’t really explain…'

Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) historic IPL 2025 victory, Virat Kohli emotionally honored his wife, Anushka Sharma, in a post-match interview that has since gone viral. The win ended RCB's 18-year wait for the IPL trophy, and Kohli acknowledged the emotional and personal support he has received from Anushka throughout the years.

An emotional Virat said, "She’s been coming here and supporting RCB since 2014, so it’s been 11 years for her as well. She’s been there relentlessly — coming to the games, watching the tough ones, watching us just miss out. What your life partner does for you to be able to play, the sacrifices, the commitment, and just backing you through thick and thin — it’s something you can’t really explain in words."

Virat Kohli also discussed the behind-the-scenes struggles that partners like Anushka face. "Only when you play professionally do you understand the amount of things that go on behind the scenes and what they go through as well. Anushka has gone through it all emotionally — watching me be down and out. Her coming to games… she’s a Bengaluru girl too, and she’s so, so proud," he added.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru set a challenging total of 190/9 in their 20 overs against Punjab Kings after being put in to bat. Virat Kohli top-scored for RCB with a composed 43 off 35 balls. This was their fourth meeting this season, with RCB winning two previous matches, including Qualifier 1, and Punjab winning once in the league stage.

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli first crossed paths in 2013 on the set of a television commercial. They kept their relationship private, eventually marrying in a small ceremony in Italy in 2017. The couple welcomed their daughter, Vamika, in January 2021, and their son, Akaay, in February 2024.

Regarding her career, Anushka Sharma's next project is "Chakda Xpress," a biopic about cricketer Jhulan Goswami. This film also marks her return to acting after a six-year hiatus, with her last appearance being in "Zero" alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. The sports drama will be available on Netflix, although the release date is still pending.
