Vidya Balan Issues 'Scam Alert' Post Her AI-Generated Deepfake Videos Surface Online

Vidya Balan has issued a public warning after AI-generated deepfake videos of her went viral on social media. The Bollywood actress, the latest victim of AI misuse, urged fans and the public to verify information before sharing such content.

Taking to social media, Vidya warned her fans about several fake videos circulating online. She revealed that the videos were created using AI and urged everyone to exercise caution, reminding them not to fall for misleading content.

In one of the fake videos, an AI-generated version of Vidya Balan is seen sitting on a sofa, greeting viewers with, "Hey, main hoon aap sabki favourite Vidya Balan…" The actress quickly addressed the issue, sharing the clip with a "Scam Alert" warning, confirming that the video was not authentic.

There are multiple videos currently circulating on social media and WhatsApp, which appear to feature me. However, I want to clarify that the videos are AI-generated and inauthentic. I have no involvement in its creation or dissemination, nor do I endorse its content in any way

She went on to say, “Any claims made in the videos should not be attributed to me, as it does not reflect my views or work. I urge everyone to verify information before sharing and be cautious of misleading AI-generated content."

The use of AI-generated deepfakes to target celebrities is becoming increasingly common. Rashmika Mandanna previously made headlines when a fabricated video of her in a compromising situation went viral. Other stars, including Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, and even cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, have also been victims of this digital manipulation.

Vidya Balan's latest film, "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3," was a box office hit. The film, starring Kartik Aaryan and Madhuri Dixit in key roles, premiered during Diwali 2024.
