Vicky Kaushal to lead in Indian Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand's biopic?

Producer, Ronnie Screwvala, had previously confirmed that Abhishek Chaubey would direct a biopic on the renowned hockey player Dhyan Chand. The film was initially said to star Ishaan Khatter in the lead role, but recent reports suggest he is no longer associated with the project. Instead, the makers have been in talks with Vicky Kaushal for the position, and discussions have progressed to an advanced stage. 

Vicky is reportedly impressed with the story and keen to collaborate with the team on the project. However, a final decision on shooting schedules and other formalities will be made after the completion of Sam Bahadur. This will mark the fourth collaboration between Vicky and Ronnie Screwvala, following Love per Square Foot, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Sam Bahadur. 

Major Dhyan Chand, known as The Wizard or The Magician of Hockey for his superb ball control, played internationally from 1926 to 1949. According to his autobiography, Goal, he scored 570 goals in 185 matches and over 1000 goals in his entire domestic and international career. He was known for his excellent ball control and goal-scoring feats, in addition to earning three Olympic gold medals, in 1928, 1932 and 1936, during an era when India dominated field hockey. 

Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal announced the film wrap of Meghna Gulzar's Sam Bahadur last month. He will also feature in Laxman Utekar's as-yet-untitled next co-starring Sara Ali Khan. He has also completed director Anand Tiwari's as-yet-untitled film co-starring Tripti Dimri[61] and Vijay Krishna Acharya's family film The Great Indian Family opposite Manushi Chhillar. Kaushal will also play a brief role in Rajkumar Hirani's immigration drama Dunki.
