After receiving immense appreciation from audiences and critics alike in theaters, Vanvaas is now set for a wider release on ZEE5. The film, which has touched countless hearts with its emotional depth, is expected to reach an even broader audience on the streaming platform. In celebration of its OTT release, we had an exclusive conversation with the cast- Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur to discuss their thoughts on this new phase and the impact of the film.
Interviewer: The film 'Vanvaas' was released in theaters earlier, and now it is set to have a second innings on OTT via ZEE5. How do you feel about this wider reach?
Utkarsh: I feel like I have always had a connection with ZEE5, right from 'Gadar' to 'Vanvaas.' This film has received great reviews from critics, and now those who missed it in theaters due to various reasons can watch it on ZEE5. We are excited that a wider audience will now be able to experience the film.
Interviewer: OTT platforms provide a great opportunity for families to watch movies together, especially for those who may not be able to visit theaters. How do you see this shift?
Simrat: Absolutely! The best part about OTT is that the entire family can sit together and watch the movie at home. Elderly family members, like grandparents, who may not be able to visit theaters can now enjoy the film comfortably at home. It's a beautiful way for families to connect and share emotions.
Interviewer: The movie's message strongly resonates with audiences, especially the older generation. Do you think it will impact the younger generation as well?
Simrat: I believe so. While many people have good relationships with their parents, there is still a significant percentage that doesn’t. When they watch this movie, it will make them reflect on their relationships. In theaters, we saw that many viewers felt an emotional urge to call their parents after the climax. Some even felt the need to go and hug their parents. The film reminds us how time passes quickly, and in the pursuit of careers and responsibilities, we often neglect our family. This film can encourage people to reconnect with their loved ones.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC2BJxs2OhA&t=8sUtkarsh: Yes, there was a notable incident where a man, who had left his parents in an old age home, watched the film. He was so overwhelmed by emotions that he couldn’t sit through the entire movie. He literally ran out of the theater because it hit him so hard. This shows the power of storytelling, it makes people introspect about their actions.
Interviewer: Moving slightly away from the film's theme, we often hear about the 'DINK' (Double Income, No Kids) concept among modern couples. What are your thoughts on this trend?
Simrat: Well, double income is great, more the merrier! But when people say they don’t want kids, I believe it's a phase. Just like we say, 'I don’t want to get married,' but when the right time comes, we are the most excited ones about it. Similarly, today’s generation is career-focused, and they want to establish themselves before thinking about marriage and kids. But at the right time, people do want to experience family life.
Utkarsh: Yes, I do believe that having children and raising them well is an important part of life. It is a way of creating a better version of ourselves. At some point, everyone needs companionship, whether from children or extended family. However, the rising costs of education and living are making people reconsider having kids. If things like school fees and property prices were more affordable, maybe more people would opt for traditional family life. The cost of living is skyrocketing. Earlier, school fees weren’t such a burden, but now even kindergarten admissions cost lakhs. People are struggling to afford basic necessities like housing and transportation. If economic conditions improve and education becomes more affordable, people might rethink their decision to not have kids. Society needs to come together and address these issues.
With Vanvaas now available on ZEE5, audiences who missed the theatrical release can finally witness the film’s emotional storytelling from the comfort of their homes.
