Ustad Zakir Hussain paid a heart-warming tribute to his father and guru the legendary Ustad Allaraakhan - A Tribute To Abbaji on his Sixteenth Barsi!


Ustad Zakir Hussain paid a heart-warming tribute once again fore the 16th year in row, to his father and guru the legendary Ustad Allaraakhan  on the eve of Ustad Allaraakhan's 16th  death anniversary, in the form of a day-long musical event held at the Shanmukhananda Hall, Matunga on 3rd February 2016

The venue reverberated with musical notes all day long from 6:30 in the morning to 10 pm at night with the first parva (phase) called Taal Pranam beginning at 6:30 am in which Shivamani along with the Sant Balwant Singh Namdhari who performed Punjabi Dhrupad style vocal with Sukhwinder Singh Namdhari on Jori.followed by eminent Sitarist Ustad  Shujaat Khan and Ustad Zakir Hussain on Tabla , Morning session concluded with a eminent classical vocalist Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar and Ustad Zakir Hussain on Tabla.

The afternoon session started with a performance by some of the leading national artists. While Anish Pradahan presented a Tabla Solo, followed by special Thavil Solo by Mannargudi M. R. Vasudevan. Afternoon Session conclude with a Sukhwinder Singh Namdhari on Jori.

The evening session at 6.30 pm starts with "Celebrations" with the international famed Western drummer, Vinnie Colaiuta and Dhafer Youssef, the Oudh player, and the grand finale, the Jam session, led by Zakir Hussain featuring several International and National artists including  Louie Banks Sridhar Parthasarathy, Selva Ganesh , Niladri Kumar, Sabir Khan , Gino Banks , Sheldon D'silva and Rakesh Chaurasia.

The programme saw many luminaries related to the realm of music and arts attend, such as Vithal Kamath, Pt. Satish Vyas Bijal Meswani, Suresh Wadkar , Anuradha Pal and Shashi Vyas along with other Family members of Ustad Zakir Hussain s wife Antonia, Fazal Qureshi, and Taufiq Quereshi's families.

"Through these 15 years, we have had the good fortune of having some of the greatest luminaries of Indian music bless this occasion along with masters representing many musical and rhythmic traditions from all across the globe. Events of this magnitude are impossible without the help of dear friends who are committed to promoting our traditional culture", said Ustad Zakir Hussain
