Television actress Tina Datta has strongly condemned the media for its intrusive and insensitive coverage of Shefali Jariwala’s funeral. Taking to Instagram, Tina expressed her dismay at the way the media handled the late actress’ final journey, calling it exploitation rather than reporting.
In a heartfelt and scathing note on her Instagram story, Tina wrote,
'The media has no shame – showing someone’s body during cremation, filming last rites, and commenting on mourners like it’s a spectacle. This isn’t reporting. It’s exploitation. Let people grieve with dignity. Even death deserves respect.'
Her anger was further evident as she continued,
'Shoving the cameras in someone’s face and asking ki kitna dukh ho raha hain, like seriously?? It’s unbelievable… Let them grieve in peace…'

Tina’s comments come in the wake of widespread coverage surrounding Shefali Jariwala’s sudden passing. The 42-year-old actress, best known for her breakout appearance in the music video Kaanta Laga, was reported to have died of cardiac arrest. However, a post-mortem has been conducted and Mumbai Police is currently investigating the matter, with an official statement awaited.
The funeral took place at Oshiwara Crematorium, where heart-wrenching visuals surfaced online. One particularly emotional moment showed Shefali’s husband, Parag Tyagi, kissing her lifeless body as her mother broke down in tears. Media cameras captured every moment—from the body being brought from Cooper Hospital to the tearful farewell by friends and family. Celebrities arriving to pay their last respects were also approached and questioned on camera, drawing criticism for the lack of privacy and sensitivity.
Tina Datta, like many others, has voiced what many are thinking: there needs to be a boundary when covering such personal, painful moments. Her message is a reminder to the media to uphold respect and compassion, especially in times of grief.
