Ace producer Yash Patnaik, who is known for making some of the path breaking shows like Veera, Sadda Haq, etc. now looking forward to venture into something different other than making daily soaps and youth oriented shows.
In a conversation with TellyBuzz, Producer Yash Patnaik shares more about his shows Veera, Sadda Haq, his upcoming projects and much more.
Your show Veera is still being remembered as a path breaking show. How does it feel?
I am happy that people still love Veera. Its been a landmark show for us at Beyond Dreams.
According to you, what has been the root cause behind the popularity of Sadda Haq on Channel V?
Sadda Haq broke many age old rules. It came as a fresh breathe of air when youth shows were heavily dependent only on romance. Sadda Haq came with a purpose. We created a relatable character in Sanyukta (Harshita Gaur) and a flawed hero in Randhir (Param Singh). It worked as we engaged in a very realistic play out and drama.
Tell us something about your new shows with Channel V and your association with them?
It's been a wonderful journey with Channel V. We understand their DNA and work as one team. When you enjoy working with your partners, you tend to give your best. Apart from Sadda Haq, we are producing Twistwala Love and Secret Diaries for the channel.
You seem to have known about the pulse of the youth audience. Please share something with your experience.
Taste of youth keeps changing every couple of years. They are exposed to so many mediums and they evolve with time. We can't experiment with them without understanding them. We have a lot of youngsters working in various departments in our company. Our content team consists of over 10 young writers and another 6-7 researchers. We get many insights from them. We also carry out research from time to time to stay in touch. We go beyond just producing content. We stay engaged with the youth of today and youth of tomorrow.
How has your wife Mamta Patnaik been supporting your throughout?
She is the back bone of the company. We complement each other in our work. She being a writer has been a key factor in Beyond Dreams' success. She has built a very strong in-house content team from ground zero.
Please share something about your upcoming projects.
2015-17 looks like a big year for us. In the coming years we will be getting into
comics and animation with some of the best names from the world of comics. Some
of our talents have worked with Marvel and DC for decades with some of the
biggest properties like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Witchblade, etc. We
are also getting ready for digital content. We are ready with over a dozen
original fiction formats. There is a dedicated team working in this space. We have
hand picked people from journalism,
radio, sports and gaming for this. We are ready for the next big revolution in
content.
