The hit song ‘Masakali’ from the movie Delhi 6 starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor has been recreated by Tseries and received mixed reviews by the audience. The reprised version of the song, ‘Masakali 2.0’ features Marjaavan pair Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria.
As soon as the song was out, viewers were not happy with the remix of their favourite song and expressed their disappointment on social media. With Bhushan Kumar and T-Series helming the song, Tanishk Bagchi's recreated version has been sung by Sachet Tandon and Tulsi Kumar, with additional lyrics by Tanishk.
Not just the audience, but the writer and director of the original too seem unhappy with the remix. The writer of the original, Prasoon Joshi, took to Twitter to express his disappointment as he wrote:
“All songs written for #Delhi6 including #Masakali close to heart, sad to see when original creation of @arrahman @prasoonjoshi_ &singer @_MohitChauhan insensitively utilised. Upto the conscience of @Tseries. Hopefully the fans will stand for originality. @RakeyshOmMehra.”
Soon, Delhi 6 director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra supported Prasoon’s tweet and asked fans to say no to Remixes. He wrote on Twitter:
“#Delhi6 the movie & it’s songs created with so much Luv & passion , let’s save the original creations for generations to come. #saynotoRemixes.”
The original song was sung by Mohit Chauhan, penned by Prasoon and composed by Rahman 12 years ago. A R Rahman too expressed his displeasure over the remix and had taken to social media to pen a note stating: “No shortcuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and rewrites. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the aim to produce music that can last generations. A team of a Director, a Composer and a Lyricist supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew.” - Lots of love and prayers A.R. Rahman.”
