Karwachauth is an Indian festival where married women fast for the longevity and safety of their husbands. The wives deck up in beautiful attires in the evening and celebrate the occasion with zest.
India Forums got in touch with Zee TV’s ‘Bhagya Lakshmi’ actress Smita Bansal who spoke about the ritual. She said, “Since I have grown up watching my mother performing this fast and following each and every ritual of Karwa Chauth, this festival that holds a very important place in my life. A day before Karwa Chauth, my mother-in-law gives me sargi, which I, along with my sister-in-law eat before the sun rises. On the day of Karwa Chauth, women from the neighborhood come to my place to perform puja and consume water only after offering prayer to the moon for the long life of their husbands. I generally try to make my husband and I stay at home together, so that I can complete my fast. This festival is very important to me and my family since it’s a tradition that has been followed through generations.”
Swati Shah who plays the role of Kadambari in Zee TV’s Pyar Ka Pehla Naam Radha Mohan, mentioned “I keep Karwa Chauth fast every year, my husband and I usually celebrate this festival with our friends where all the ladies get together and do the puja. On this day, I usually wear sindoor with a red or pink saree. In fact, early in the morning of Karwa Chauth, my mother-in-law gives me sargi, which I ensure to eat before sunrise. Every year, I try that my husband and I stay at home together to perform all the rituals of Karwa Chauth, but this year since I am shooting for my show, I will try to be at home on time for the puja.”
Here's wishing all our readers a very happy Karva Chauth.
