The Mumbai Police recently informed the Bombay High Court about the closure of a forgery case against popular television actress Shweta Tiwari. Her estranged husband, Abhinav Kohli, had filed this case in 2021. The court has now allowed Tiwari to withdraw her petition, which was aimed at quashing the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the Bandra Kurla police station.
As per reports from the Free Press Journal, the police submitted an ‘A’ Summary report on December 17, 2024. This report was presented to a bench comprising Justices Sarang Kotwal and Neela Gokhale. The report suggested that although the allegations appeared valid on the surface, there was no substantial evidence to back the claims against the actress.
For context, an ‘A’ Summary report is filed in cases where the complaint seems legitimate, but insufficient evidence prevents further legal action. The court stated, "In view of this position, the Petition is allowed to be withdrawn. However, it is made clear that both the parties would be at liberty to take out appropriate legal proceedings in accordance with law if an order, adverse to either of the parties, is passed."
The forgery case stemmed from Abhinav Kohli's accusations in 2021. Kohli alleged that Shweta had forged his signature on a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to secure a United Kingdom visa for their son, Reyansh. He further claimed that he contacted the UK embassy in India, resulting in the visa’s cancellation.
Shweta Tiwari and Abhinav Kohli married in 2013 after dating for four years. However, their relationship soured, and they separated in 2019. Their son Reyansh continues to live with Shweta. The actress, known for her role in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, had earlier been married to Raja Chaudhary, with whom she shares a daughter, Palak Tiwari.
This closure comes as a relief for Shweta, marking the end of a four-year legal battle that had been a significant strain on her personal life.
