Actor Srikant Dwivedi, who played the lead role in show Lakshmi Narayan and currently plays the role of Lord Vishnu in the mythological show Shiv Shakti-Tap Tyag Tandav, says that he is always on the lookout for interesting roles. He adds that he wants to take up negative characters so that he can experiment more with his craft.
“I want to explore different sides of my acting. While I enjoy playing positive roles, I want to take on characters with negative shades. I’m curious to see how I perform in such roles and how the audience reacts to them. At the same time, I’ve always wanted to try comedy, as I believe it’s a great way to challenge myself. I’m interested in exploring these aspects of my acting and seeing how well I can bring them to life,” he says.
Talking about getting only similar roles, he says, “It often happens that when an actor plays a successful role, they get similar roles repeatedly. But it ultimately depends on the actor’s choice whether they want to continue with the same kind of roles or try something new. The biggest challenge in this industry is the waiting game. Sometimes, the wait for a new and different role is so long that actors don’t want to wait that long and prefer to keep working. That’s why many actors accept repeated roles they don’t want long gaps in their careers. However, some actors enjoy doing the same kind of roles, but those who truly love their craft and are passionate about creativity often look for different kinds of roles. It’s completely subjective. Some actors prefer to wait for the right opportunity, while others take up similar roles to maintain consistency in their work.”

When it comes to different genres, he says that we need to work on comedy. “Indian comedy cinema needs a revival. Actors like Govinda and Akshay Kumar brought a different level of comedy to the screen making us laugh uncontrollably. But today, the writing and ideas in comedy films are not as strong as before. There isn’t much exploration in this genre because audiences are currently more drawn to action films or realistic cinema that they can relate to. However, I believe the industry needs strong comedy writers and people who truly understand the craft of humour. Comedy films are indeed getting less screen time these days, but I’m still waiting for a movie that delivers great comedy from start to finish. That kind of film is missing right now, and I think a lot depends on good writing,” he says.

Romance, love triangles, thrillers & murder mystery are consumed more than any other genre, he says, adding, “But I don’t limit myself to just one genre. I like to watch all kinds of movies because I believe in exploring different genres and learning from them. Whenever I watch a film, I try to put myself in the character’s situation and imagine how I would approach a scene. My mind is always active, analyzing and enacting situations in my head. That’s why I enjoy watching all kinds of movies, every genre has something unique to offer.”
