Shimmy movie review

Directed by Disha Noyonika Rindani, produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain, along with Pratik Gandhi, the movie stars Chahat Tewani and Bhamini Oza Gandhi in pivotal roles. Shimmy is about a day in the life of a young girl and her father as they embark on an awkward shopping spree no one ever saw coming. A coming of age story of not just a teenager but also her father, settling into their new reality.

A film that lasts for about 23 minutes, Shimmy on Amazon MiniTV manages to speak so much in so little time. Not only do we have a constant smile on our faces, but at the end of the movie, your heart is also full, and for all the right reasons. The movie tries to break some gender stereotypes down while also throwing light on the life of a single parent. The movie is one that must be watched by every parent as it tries to make even the most complicated of things look rather simpler and easy going.

There's this moment in the movie which isn't very significant, but also extremely significant. While Pratik as the father tells daughter Raima to leave a birthday party soon, when she is asked to stay longer, she refuses, however, it is her father who tells her it is okay and that he will pick her up a little later. It depicts how all it takes is one step of understanding from both, the parent and the child, to get everything in place, even if it is with just one parent.

Pratik is as always, a treat to watch, while Chahat is an equally beautiful child actress to look at. The chemistry that they bring about as a father-daughter duo, is also a treat to watch. Bhamini, though briefly present on the screen, also highlights a fresher and much needed to be talked about aspect of a single parent's need for companionship, and the subtlety of it is beautiful.

Not too long, and neither too preachy, Shimmy gets most of the things right, and that is what makes every bit about these almost 23 minutes watchable. When the movie ends, you are left with your hearts full and eyes glimmering with a smile. If you want to watch something sweet and do it with your parent, this could be it.
