Marvel Studios' 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' is all set to release in theatres across Maharashtra on Friday.

The film, which was released in other parts of the country in September, could not open in the state as theatres remained shut here amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The state government had on September 25 announced that the state would allow the reopening of cinemas and auditoriums from October 22.

Cinema halls, single-screen theatres, drama theatres and auditoriums have been allowed to open from October 22 with 50% seating capacity.

Earlier last week, the government had issued SOPs for reopening of cinema halls, drama theatres and auditoriums for cultural events at 50 percent capacity across the state.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film features Simu Liu, Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Fala Chen, Meng'er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng with Michelle Yeoh.

The movie marks Marvel's first project with an Asian lead. It is set after the events of 'Avengers: Endgame

The story follows Shang-Chi who is drawn into the clandestine Ten Rings organisation and is forced to confront the past he thought he left behind.

Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi, a key piece to a broken family that has a history of infighting. The dysfunctional family dynamics are even more important than the ten rings that grant such immense power to Shang Chi’s power-hungry father Wenwu, who has lived for 1,000 years and created a society called the Ten Rings that has destroyed kingdoms and swayed the events all over the world.

Cretton, known for directing movies such as 'Just Mercy' and 'Short Term 12', has also penned the screenplay with Dave Callaham and Andrew Lanham.
