Shakuntalam Telefilms and NDTV Imagine join hands for a new show, tentatively titled 'Devi'.

Shakuntalams Devi on Imagine..
The show will focus on the life of a girl who is pushed to the status of a Devi, on the very day she is born. The show will also tackle with the superstitious beliefs accepted by villagers just to suit their convenience.

According to our source, "The show will track the life of a girl who is considered as a Goddess incarnate by the villagers. It so happens that the entire village is hit by severe drought when this girl child is born to a poor guy living in the village. The guy who himself is suffering from poverty decides to drop the child at a nearby temple, when to the utter surprise of all, the village receives its first rainfall in many months. From that day onwards, the villagers believe that the kid is a Devi and start respecting her as a Goddess. The show will focus on the trials that the girl undergoes throughout her life, with this firm belief instilled in the villagers' minds".

"As far as the cast goes, the leads have not been finalized yet. However, Hemant Pandey has been finalized to play the girl's father, while Nimay Bali has been finalized to play another pivotal role", informs our source.

When contacted, Producer Shyamashis Bhattacharya said, "Well, I can't give you any details about the concept for our Imagine show. All that I can tell you is that we are mainly casting new faces to play leads. As of now, only Hemant Pandey and Nimay Bali are confirmed".

We tried calling Nimay Bali, but he refused to comment.

We also tried contacting Hemant Pandey who has acted in many films including Krrish with Hrithik Roshan, but he remained unavailable.

Shakuntalam Telefilms is presently producing Love Ne Mila Di Jodi on Star One and Na Aana Is Desh Laado on COLORS. Devi is expected to launch sometime early next year..
