Actress Saumya Tandon has enthralled the viewers with her brilliant acting skills and has always kept her fans entertained with her performances. The Actress got into a conversation with a leading news daily where she opened up on facing difficulties for bagging projects abroad due to her fair skin.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Saumya mentioned that unfortunately in our society, the conditioning is such that people associate the word 'lovely' with 'fair' which means that they feel that only girls who are fair are lovely which is not the right notion. She also revealed that she lost out on a lot of work because they said that, 'she is too fair'. She added that people perceive that an Indian girl should be brown.

Saumya mentioned that in a lot of auditions that she gave abroad, they told her, 'oh you are fair, Indian girls are not supposed to be that.' To which she says that it is very stereotypical and the world outside perceives Indian girls to be brown. She also revealed that she has been rejected by being told that she is not brown so she will not be cast as an Indian.

She further adds that photographers take dark models because they somehow feel that they are more exotic or they are going to be better for a saree or an Indian jewellery ad. She added that they want the Indian-ness which in their head is brown. "What about girls from Kashmir, Punjab, they are fair, don’t you call them Indian?," Saumya says.
