Sania Mirza's family issues statement amid Shoaib Maik's marriage with Sana Javed; confirms divorce months ago

The saga surrounding former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and former Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has been a topsy-turvy ride so far when it comes to updates about their personal life. While the estranged couple were entirely silent about any sort of news about their status, it was certain that they were staying separately for a while now.

And amid absolute silence from both parties pertaining to the same, one post from Malik on Instagram caused a huge stir as it was the announcement of his getting married to Pakistani actress Sana Javed. The photo was from their wedding ceremony.

Following that, people were wondering and wanted an update from Mirza. While the Indian tennis legend herself hasn't come forward to talk about it, the Mirza family did issue a statement wherein they asserted that the reason they were forced to release this statement was owing to the immense scrutiny surrounding Mirza and Malik.

The official statement read, “Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead! At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy.”

For the uninitiated, Mirza and Malik married back in April 2010, and they stayed married for over a decade. Back in 2018, the couple gave birth to their son, Izhaan Mirza Malik in 2018. Rumours about the couple's marriage going through a rough patch hit the news last year, and following it was mentioned that it had hit rock bottom. This was further intensified when a video of Mirza giving a tour of her new house was release and there were no photographs of Malik or their marriage as well.
