Samantha Ruth Prabhu has found herself at the centre of yet another health-related controversy. Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, widely known online as The Liver Doc, has once again raised concerns about the actress's endorsement of wellness products, specifically supplements containing NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide).
The Liver Doc, who regularly posts medical critiques on social media, accused Samantha of promoting “fraud” health products. Reacting to her recent Instagram post endorsing a product that claims to restore NAD+ levels and aid in energy, focus, and recovery, the doctor wrote, “How science illiterate movie celebrities defraud their millions of followers by selling supplements that do not work at all.”
He further added, “BOTTOM LINE? If you want to age better, focus on the boring things that actually work—diet, exercise, sleep, avoidance of alcohol and tobacco, vaccination. Not on a molecule that can’t even clear Phase 2 - quality evidence.”
This sharp reaction comes in response to Samantha’s public endorsement of Gataca, a supplement brand she co-founded. In an earlier post, she stated, “The results spoke for themselves. So I did not just keep taking it. I joined the mission. I became Co-Founder of Gataca because I believe in what we are creating. This is not about shortcuts. It is about showing up for your future.”
https://www.instagram.com/p/DKcHzO6h4Nu/?igsh=MTVuajhmZHBwOWpmYQ==She also claimed that Gataca’s products are “third party tested, heavy metal tested, and microbial tested,” and described the brand as “backed by science, driven by purpose.”
However, Dr Philips urged his followers to be cautious of celebrity-led wellness campaigns, writing in his caption: “Beware of snake oil salesmen, or snake oil saleswomen. They come in various sizes and forms. Be a well-informed consumer. Progress with science and evidence. Listen to real doctors.”
This is not the first instance of the Liver Doc criticising Samantha. In the past, he had called her out for promoting hydrogen peroxide nebulisation—an alternative remedy not supported by credible scientific evidence—and labelled her a “fraud” back then as well.
As of now, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has not issued any public response to the doctor’s recent remarks.
