Russell Peters leaves Delhi rolling in the aisles

New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) His rib-tickling and irresistible humour had everyone in splits, even when he poked fun at favourite Bollywood actors. Canadian born Indian comedian Russell Peters left Delhi bursting in guffaws during his show here.

Performing Wednesday in two back-to-back shows at Siri Fort Auditorium here, Peters, infamous for his satirical take on various races and cultures, ripped Indian actors apart with his observations.

But the comedy veteran made it a point to mention that some of the Bollywood actors took his items in good humour and attended his Mumbai performance last week.

'They're such nerds. Their roles aren't based on talent but on looks,' he cried out during the performance.

He's already claimed in his earlier performances that Bollywood 'doesn't make any sense to me', as the films 'neither have good acting nor good scripts'.

Peters then poked fun at Bollywood's staple of song-and-dance culture nullifying its requirement in the movies.

'In Indian movies, a guy's family can get slaughtered and he could be half dead but still he will be doing Bhangra (a Punjabi dance form),' he said imitating the standard dancing-around-the-tree routine coupled to beats of a song.

However, his scorching remark that left the audiences breathless was when he targeted former Miss world and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for her acting.

'Aishwarya Rai is a beautiful stunning woman to look at. But she can' act worth a shit. She should be better left to do only endorsements because of her beauty,' Peters said delivering his final blow.

Peters didn't limit his jokes to only the Indian and South Asian community but stretched it to cultures in Ireland, England, South Africa, China and Vietnam as well among others.

The 38-year-old whose parents shifted base to Canada from India 41 years ago was born and brought up in Ontario, central Canada.

He started off as a comedian at the age of 19 and did moderately well before one of his pirated clips became a downloading sensation on peer to peer (P2P - diverse connectivity) sites, which led to a gush in his fan base making him a household name worldwide.

The humourist was also upbeat about the recent happenings in the country.

He ridiculed the recent ban on dancing in Bangalore in public places like discotheques and pubs.

'The funny thing is that if you dance in Bangalore you get fined, but you can just about take a piss anywhere in the city,' Peters laughed at the situation.

Peters has been among the few comedians worldwide to have completely sold out shows before every performance.

The scene was no different here. He came to Delhi after jam-packed performances in Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The show concluded with his trademark comment 'somebody's gonna get a hurt real bad' with a standing ovation from the hooting audience.
