Dil Yeh Ziddi Hai, Zee's newest offering is a slice of life drama that will tug your heartstrings. It's a fresh concept sans any supernatural element or saas-bahu plot. We caught up with Rohit Suchanti, one of the actors in the show, for a conversation.
What is the concept and USP of Dil Yeh Ziddi Hai?
The show brings forward a fresh, relatable and unique tale of an ordinary girl’s ability to break the shackle of a physical disability and take charge of her own destiny. The inspirational, evocative drama tells you the story of Kajal and her resilience in picking up the cards of destiny and spiritedly marching on in life after being diagnosed with a genetic disorder where one loses their eyesight over a period of time. Refusing to bow down to fate, Kajal is all set to embark on a journey of fulfilling the dreams which she had anyway envisioned with her eyes closed, well aware that she may not have ‘vision’ on her side to 'see' them through to completion.
How do you think the show will inspire people?
Dil Yeh Ziddi Hai is not just a show about a girl who will eventually turn blind but is about anyone and everyone who has ever seen a dream and then by a quirk of destiny, seen them turn to dust or almost. It celebrates the spirit of picking up your house of cards after it has collapsed and finding the positivity and strength to still go after your dreams.
After Bigg Boss, we are now seeing you directly in Dil Yeh Ziddi Hai. What were you up to and why did you choose to come on board for this show?
After Bigg Boss, I was actually taking things very slow. I got a lot of love from everyone and my fan base increased a lot, so I didn’t want to rush in and go on a signing spree or end up with substandard projects. In fact, I got a lot of offers, but I was waiting for the right one. That's when Dil Yeh Ziddi Hai happened. I came across the show and I was immediately hooked. Kajal’s story was pretty unique and I loved my character. If you know me well, you will know that Anshuman is exactly what I am in real life. I am sure my fans will also love him and I can't wait for you all to see the show.
Tell us more about your character.
Anshuman is not like your typical guy, he doesn't while away time with friends and is focused only on his career. He is very disciplined and ambitious in life and wants to do something big in the field of dance. In fact, even though he is the eye candy for all the women of Jhansi, he doesn't lose his focus. Being an introvert, he's very shy around the ladies and that helps him concentrate on his dance and not deviate from his path. However, he opens up to Kajal like never before and their chemistry is something to watch out for!
To play the role of an aspiring dancer, did you undertake any special preparation?
To be honest, I am not a very good dancer, but you could say I am decent. I did need to practice hard with my choreographers whenever we had to shoot a dance sequence. Being a fast learner, I would practise it a couple of times and then we would proceed to shoot the sequence.
What do you feel ziddi about?
One thing that really motivates me and I never take lightly is my fitness. When I was in Jaipur, I weighed almost 105 kgs and at that weight it was impossible for me to achieve my dreams to become an actor. One day, I decided that I can’t be living this lazy lifestyle and decided to change that about myself and started working out. As of today, I have lost almost 30 kgs and now when I wake up and look at myself in the mirror, I genuinely feel that I have achieved it because of my zid. I hope that each of us has at least one such reason to cling onto and make our life worth living happily.
Which actor from the entertainment industry inspires you and why?
I am a huge fan of Ranveer Singh! More than that, I think he has carved his own niche in the industry inspite of being heavily criticized for his look or style. His sense of style and fashion really inspires me and you can see that in the way that I also dress up. I love wearing quirky and atrangi clothes on normal days when I am not on set since I have to wear character appropriate clothes during shoot. I remember during my initial days in the industry, Farah Khan ma’am told me that I am the Ranveer Singh of TV, which is a huge thing for me.
