*Disclaimer: The characters mentioned aren't going to be similar due to the cross-cultural set-up. We at India Forums aren't attempting a comparison or contrast. This is strictly about watching shows with common elements we all love!
CW stole the show when they gave Archie's Comics it's very own live-action TV series adaptation. Archie and his friends have come a long way from old school animated series, Archie's Weird Mysteries on Cartoon Network and a comedy film adaptation too. But, never has it before taken on mainstream TV with this kind of popularity.
The show received a bunch of mixed responses due to it's unlikely cast and a plot that isn't immediately identified as classic Archie's by fans. The production took on cultural appropriation and the star cast is as inclusive as it gets with characters from minorities. We wondered what Indian TV would do with Riverdale and who would they cast as the iconic comic characters.
Adding to the mix, if Riverdale would get it's own Indian TV adaptation, we think the star cast would look a little like this-
Sreejita De as Veronica Lodge
Camila Mendes plays Veronica so well, we can see her trotting through Riverdale high on a comic panel. She has an air about her that allows her to own any room she walks in. And, we can totally see Sreejita De moonlight as Veronica. She has an uncanny similarity with the Riverdale actress and we love how easily she would into the role. The Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai actress would make a mean Ronnie!
Sanaya Irani as Betty Cooper
Betty Cooper is the quintessential girl-next-door, the nice girl you root for. In Riverdale, we have pretty Betty with some major potential to go rogue. With Sanaya Irani's record of playing the good-girl in Miley Jab Hum Tum and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon we couldn't think of anyone else more fitting for Betty. She would totally look the part sipping on strawberry milkshakes at Pop Tate's.Harshad Arora as Archie Andrews
Archie Andrews is the poster child for 'charming school boy'. He is a typical teenager from a small town. Harshad Arora definitely has the eyebrows for it, we think! The actor who is best known for his role in Beintehaa seems like the type to goof around school and kill it at football practice too. We can totally picture him having dating dilemmas and struggling with artistic realisations.Krystle Dsouza as Cheryl Blossom
If there's anyone who can play the bold, glamorous Cheryl Blossom, it's Krystle Dsouza. The Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai actress is a complete diva and has what it takes to turn heads. She is stylish and has the personality to walk into high school corridors with a strut that commands a bow from her peers. A little more cherry lipstick and she's good to go!
Karan Wahi as Jughead
Cole Sprouse plays this version of Jughead so well, it's hard to imagine anyone else do it. But, we think Karan Wahi's goofiness is a perfect match! He will make for a great underdog. He's got a rugged charm about him that makes him the best contender for Jughead.
What do you think? Have you watched Riverdale?
