Riteish Deshmukh recalls breaking up with Genelia over text: A prank gone wrong

Bollywood’s most adorable celebrity couple Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza appeared on the The Kapil Sharma Show, where they opened up about their relationship and spilled some secrets.

During the show, Riteish recalled playing a breakup prank on Genelia, who was his girlfriend at that time. The prank did not go down well and the actor vowed to never pull off any pranks ever again.

It all happened when the duo was dating each other and Riteish decided to call off the relationship with Genelia over a text, as a part of the prank. However, the actress failed to understand the trap and had a very serious reaction. Post this, Riteish vowed to never joke about such matters.

The couple also revealed the nicknames they have for each other. While Riteish calls his wife Genee, she calls him Dholu.

Genelia and Riteish met and fell in love on the sets of Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. The duo dated for 10 years and got married in 2012 and have two sons Riaan and Rahyl.

When asked on the show about why the couple took ‘pheras’ on their wedding instead of an oath (much like the elected members of an assembly or parliament), Riteish had a hilarious reply. He said,  "Phere liye they. Wo kya hota hai na, jab aap shapath lete ho to wo paanch saal ki sarkar hoti hai, paanch saal me badal jati hai (We took pheras. The thing is when you take an oath, it is for a five-year government, it gets changed after five years)."
