Rinku Ghosh: There are just a handful of good influencers

Rinku Ghosh emphasizes the importance of approaching content, particularly information and recommendations, on social media with a degree of scepticism. She adds that you need to be sure of who you are following on the platform

“Today, social media is very strong. As said 'jo dikta hai woh bikta hai’, and social media is just that. Today, almost everyone is on social media. I feel at present time, social media is important, but it requires a little scrutiny and monitoring. I don't think there is a prominent future for it. Whenever there is anything in abundance, the importance is lost,” she says.

She adds, “Everything one sees on social media is definitely not real. There are some really good influencers but they are just a handful.” 

Reels are influencing people in good ways and bad ways, she says, adding, “I feel today all these reels, etc, are taking away the innocence from our children. I've noticed that some of the reels created by kids resemble those of adults in terms of their dance style, expressions, and song choices.

The fact that the medium is very easy makes everyone want to join in, she says, adding, “Today everyone wants to become a star, and thanks to social media, it's the easiest way to become. But the question is, for how long will it last? I don't watch or follow any YouTuber. There are some doctors, engineers, and businessmen, and as you mentioned, they are using this platform wisely to bring awareness, to teach their craft or to entrust their knowledge so that it can benefit someone else. Social media can be used and misused. It is on us what to choose.”
