Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘83 is touted to be one of the highest anticipated sports films, and fans were eager to see Ranveer Singh as legendary cricketer Kapil Dev. This sports drama is extra special for fans as real-life couple Ranveer and Deepika Padukone will be seen together on screen for the first time after the marriage, interestingly as reel life husband-wife.
However, a few days ago the makers had announced that ‘83 has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The makers had released an official statement saying that the film will hit the theatres when the time is right.
A recent Bollywood Hungama report states that the makers have almost finalised a date, and it is the exact same day when India lifted the World Cup 27 years ago. Revealing that ‘83 is most likely to release on June 25, a source close to the development shared: “June 25 is a special day as that’s when India lifted the world cup 27 years back by defeating the West-Indies cricket team at Lords. No better occasion to relive the moment than this day. It’s as if destiny wanted the film to arrive on this particular day.”
However, the source states that the film will only be released when the ongoing COVID-19 is completely under control, to ensure the safety of the audiences. “The health scenario of the nation lies above film and its release, and the makers will announce a date only when there is absolute safety for the viewers to visit the cinema halls. Be assured, it wouldn’t release if there is even 1% scare among the audience, as the idea is to get the entire nation to the cinema hall to revisit the iconic day of Indian cricket,” adds the source.
Besides June 25, the makers also have August 15, which is India’s Independence Day, as an option to release the film. The source informs, “That’s an option for an extreme scenario, but they are optimistic that things would be back to normal by summer end. A wait and watch scenario is being adopted for now, with a team keeping an eye on the on-ground scenario”
Speaking of ‘83, Ranveer Singh will be seen playing the character of former world cup winning captain Kapil Dev and Deepika Padukone portraying the character of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev. The sports drama also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Harrdy Sandhu, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Sahil Khattar among others in key roles.
