According to a Mid-Day report, the actor has begun working on a quiet yet emotional mission: bringing back the iconic RK Studios. For fans of classic Hindi cinema, the name alone sparks memories of a golden era. Now, Ranbir wants to turn those memories into something living and active again.

A Legacy That Shaped Indian Cinema

RK Studios was founded by Raj Kapoor in 1948 and went on to deliver films that left a permanent mark on Indian storytelling. From Barsaat and Awaara to Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Ram Teri Ganga Maili, the banner stood for timeless music, strong emotion, and unforgettable characters.

The last film under the RK Films name was Rishi Kapoor’s Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999. After that, the industry shifted further into Mumbai’s northern suburbs, leaving the once-bustling Chembur studio quieter by the year. A devastating fire in 2017 destroyed rare memorabilia and gutted major parts of the property. Maintaining and rebuilding the space became nearly impossible, and the family reluctantly sold it—signalling the end of an era.

Ranbir’s Plan For A New RK Studios

Now, years after the shutdown, Ranbir is determined to give the studio name a new heartbeat. As per the report, he has already shortlisted several scripts and wants to produce films that blend Raj Kapoor’s warmth with a more contemporary voice. The idea isn’t to recreate the past but to carry forward its spirit in a fresh, relatable way. Plans include setting up a creative hub in Mumbai that may feature office spaces, a screening room, and an environment where filmmakers can collaborate freely, something the original studio was known for.

Ranbir’s own directorial debut is expected to be one of the key projects under this revived banner. He is also lining up collaborations with some of today’s biggest names, including Deepika Padukone and Ayan Mukerji.
