Director Ram Gopal Varma has been controversy's favorite child for a long time now. After facing innumerable hurdles, his film Lakshmi's NTR is finally set to release in Andhra Pradesh on May 1, 2019.

Ahead of the release, the filmmaker was to conduct a press meet in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, but as soon as he landed at the Vijayawada airport on on Sunday, the Andhra Pradesh police prevented him from entering the city and was asked to return to Hyderabad.

RGV took to Twitter and narrated the whole incident. His tweets read:

“tweeted, "I am In police custody now for the only crime of trying to tell truth ..THERE IS NO DEMOCRACY IN ANDHRA PRADESH.” Ram Gopal Varma also tweeted about democracy and how he has been blocked from going live on Instagram and Facebook. RGV tweeted, "Sorry to inform that the press meet at 4 pm is cancelled because the police stopped us and have barred my entry into Vijaywada and forcibly sending me back to hyderabad ..Hey @ncbn WHERE IS DEMOCRACY ? WHY IS TRUTH BEING BACK STABBED?"

Apart from this, in the morning as well, RGV had tweeted that the Hotels in Vijaywada were being warned not to accommodate #LakshmisNTR team.

He tweeted, “Hotels in Vijaywada are being warned not to accommodate #LakshmisNTR team ..First Hotel Novotel has cancelled us and now Hotel Ilapuram .This after they have been paid in advance ..The people in power should understand that one can misuse power to delay,but no one can stop truth.”

Earlier, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had approached the High Court, seeking an order to stay Lakshmi's NTR’s release due to elections.
