Rajkumar Santoshi opens up on fearing backlash & controversies amid the release of 'Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh'

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi known for hits like Damini, Ghayal, and Andaz Apna Apna is coming back with his latest presentation ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ after a hiatus of 9 years. The trailer of the film has already piqued the interest of the audiences and now they eagerly waiting to witness this historic drama.

Recently, the ace filmmaker joined India Forums for a conversation and talked about the film 'Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh' having a patriotic theme but not leading to jingosim, his take on film controversies and other things. 

When asked about his film having a patriotic theme, and keeping a balance with the narrative so that it doesn't move towards jingoism, Santoshi exclaimed, 

"If you will see my track record, whichever films I have made, be it Legend of Bhagat Singh, which was also based on history, my treatment always given to it is either entertaining and interesting and never gets preachy. Legend of Bhagat Singh was also not preachy. So I connect with people, talk with them and that's how I do it, I do not lecture them from a distance and I have tried the same for this movie as well."

He further added,

"I have created the whole drama in a very entertaining manner. You will stay hooked to the screens and you will be intrigued to know what happens further. It is a very engaging drama."

Sharing his thought on the question, 'did he fear the film would face any kind of a backlash or get dragged into a controversy', the director said,

"I did think that it might face some backlash, but I have always believed that if you are honest towards your work and you are making an honest film then you don't need to fear anything. And whatever I am trying to portray is just the truth and whatever I have studied and understood, I am impartial and have shown both sides of the coin."

He added, 

"so I am not worried about it. If we start to worry, how will we present the truth? So I have said whatever I want to in bold and clear words and I am not connected with any party. So I will support the good intentions. I don't give a yes or no upon seeing the individual, but on listening to his thoughts We have seen many good leaders, but if i do not agree with his thoughts then I will stand against him."

The film 'Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh will be hitting the theatres on this 26th January 2023.
