Rajeshwari Sachdev walks away with the Cake...

In Hindi there is a well known proverb – “Daane daane mei likha hota hain, khaane wale ka naam”. This holds so true in the anchor selection scenario of the Sony TV upcoming musical show K for Kishore.

Initially it was announced that playback singer Babul Supriyo will be the host for the much awaited musical show. Babul is well known for his Kishoreda “fan”fare and it seemed appropriate that he was indeed a good choice. But now there is a change of plan. The host will no longer be Babul Supriyo, but it is going to be Rajeshwari Sachdev Badola, a very popular name in the television industry. There is also a news that Babul Supriyo will soon be seen in NDTV Imagine’s program “Dhoom Macha De”. Was the reason for dropping out of K for Kishore a “conflict of interest”? It is not known yet.

But the new anchor Rajeshwari is very excited to be a part of the project. When she was contacted, her enthused reply was, “Well they asked me if I can do the hosting and after going through it I found that the concept of the show is very unique. So decided why not! Let me do it.” She seemed very excited with the whole concept, the format and also about the selected contestants. When she was asked to comment on this she said, “It has contestants who are all from different walks of life and have performed on stages and other shows. All are really talented ones and I am really looking forward to now enjoy some of these old songs during this period.” Incidentally Rajeshwari herself is a very big Kishore Kumar fan. When she was asked about Kishoreda she said, “I am a music lover and Kishore is my favourite too like everyone else’s. Is there anyone who doesn’t like his songs! I doubt. To me, he was the complete performer. There was none like him in the music industry then or even now.”

While Babul missed out on a great opportunity, Rajeshwari grabbed it with both hands. The show has a unique concept and a very different format and best part is that it will be magical retro songs of Kishoreda enthralling the fans, presented in new voices in a new style. The judges, the participants, the producers, the host as well as the public seem very interested. Let’s hope Rajeshwari anchors this new ship well and takes us on a fabulous musical voyage.
