Rachi Sharma on playing Pranali Rathod's mother for Kumkum Bhagya's sequence: 'Did not look like a mom'

Kumkum Bhagya, which has undergone several generation leaps since its launch in 2014, recently entered a new phase in its storyline with Pranali Rathod introduced as the current lead. As the narrative shifted focus to the next generation, the show saw the exit of earlier characters while incorporating transitional moments that linked the old with the new. One such moment featured Rachi Sharma, who previously played the character Poorvi, returning for a short appearance in a special sequence alongside Pranali.

Speaking about the shoot in an interview with India Forums, Rachi said, “It was really nice. Of course, I did not exactly look like a mom, which we laughed about, but it was still a great time. Pranali and I go way back, we have been friends for a long time, so working together felt very natural and comfortable.” She also mentioned that although it was just a one day shoot, she put her full effort into it. “I just gave my best shot with all the conviction,” she said. “From what I have seen, the audience seemed to enjoy it. There has been a lot of positive feedback and appreciation for that segment.”

Rachi Sharma had joined Kumkum Bhagya in 2023 following a previous leap in the storyline. She played Poorvi Kohli Malhotra, the daughter of Ranbir and Prachi, and was one of the central characters until the show moved forward by another twenty years in early 2025. After her character's track ended, she returned briefly for the dream sequence in which Pranali’s character, Prarthana, imagines her mother. The scene was designed to offer emotional continuity without reintroducing Rachi into the main plot.

Pranali Rathod, who had previously worked in television shows such as Barrister Babu and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, took on the role of Prarthana in the most recent generation shift. The change marked another step in the show's evolving cast and storyline structure.

Rachi Sharma’s return was limited to this one sequence. Her comments reflected a focus on her working relationship with Pranali and her approach to the performance. The appearance was brief, but intended to maintain a narrative connection between characters across generations.
