Chandigarh, Sep 19 (IANS) A Punjabi filmmaker is trying to revive the state's traditional sport `kabaddi' and attract more youngsters towards the game through his new film 'Kabaddi Ikk Mohabbat'.

'Kabaddi originated in Punjab and today the sport is enjoying a very good fan following in countries like Britain, Canada and the US. But we felt that somehow the game has gone on the backseat in Punjab. This film is our attempt to revive this energetic sport,' said Gurinder Dimpy, director of the film.

'Many NRIs are already contributing towards this game and now it is our turn to play our part. We have produced hit films on hockey, football and cricket and I am sure that this movie will also be a big hit,' said Dimpy.

The film, slated for an October release, stars Dev Kharound, Gurleen Chopra, Gugu Gill, Deep Dhillon, Rana Ranbir and Gurpreet Ghuggi.

'Though Punjabis have settled across the world and follow different cultures but kabaddi still rules their heart. I am sure that this movie will turn the fortunes of this sport. We have used the expertise of kabaddi masters to do justice to the film,' said Amneet Singh, producer of the film.

Singers Udit Narayan, Mika and Labh Janjua have sung various tracks of the movie.

The Punjab government had organised World Cup Kabaddi-2010 April this year. Nine teams from across the globe, including Pakistan, US, Canada, Iran and Australia, had participated in the tournament.

India had won the first edition of kabaddi world cup, beating arch rivals Pakistan.
