A government panel that examined the issue of certification under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, submitted its report to Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, a statement said Wednesday.

A government panel that examined the issue of certification under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, submitted its report to Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, a statement said Wednesday.

According to the statement, the empowered committee under the chairmanship of Justice Mukul Mudgal, retired chief justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, presented its report, along with findings and recommendations, to the minister.

The committee was constituted Feb 4, 2013.

It revisited major areas of concern and made key recommendations on issues such as advisory panels, guidelines for certification and issues such as portrayal of women, obscenity and communal disharmony, classification of films, treatment of piracy, jurisdiction of the appellate tribunal, and review of provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.

The committee has proposed a draft Cinematograph Bill, incorporating its recommendations.
