In today’s times, when digital platforms are a rage and creators and actors are willing to be associated with the web platform, we hear that Hong Kong based video-on-demand platform Viu will be soon shutting down its operations in India.

According to the latest media reports, the decision was announced today at the Company’s Mumbai office. Viu, which began its operations in India in 2016 and has presented series like Love, Lust & Confusion, Memories, Gehraiyaan and Spotlight to name a few.

A senior producer who made shows for the platform said that the news was broken to the employees earlier today. "They were said that their services are no longer required and they do not need to report to work from today onwards." The producer said that he could see this coming as the platform decided to opt-out of on-going projects. "Whenever we discussed sequels or new concept they got back to us saying everything is on hold. We have also seen them trimming their team. Head of content moved on, and so did many from the marketing team, whom we used to interact with on a regular basis," added the producer.

OTT platform Viu follows a 'freemium' model, allowing users to access some content for free, while exclusive content can be viewed after subscribing to a plan.
