Rajkumar Hirani to make his debut in the OTT space as a showrunner for Vikrant Massey starrer project

Renowned director Rajkumar Hirani, fresh off the success of "Dunki" starring Shah Rukh Khan, is set to make his debut in the OTT space as a showrunner. The 61-year-old filmmaker revealed in a virtual interview that he is thrilled about the upcoming project, which will be available on Disney Hotstar. Vikrant Massey, known for his versatile roles, has been roped in to play a pivotal character in the show.

Sharing details about the OTT venture, Hirani mentioned, "I'm doing an OTT show, which we actually start shooting this month. I'm a showrunner for that, I'm not directing it. It's a show for Hotstar (Disney Hotstar) and Vikrant Massey is playing a role in it. It's something I'm very happy about with the script and the way it has panned out. I'm really involved in this show, and it's in my own space."

Hirani, recognized for his iconic slice-of-life films like the "Munnabhai" series, "3 Idiots," "PK," and the biopic "Sanju," also discussed his future plans. During the interview, he shared that the COVID-19 lockdown allowed him to work on several scripts. The acclaimed director expressed excitement about developing these ideas further and deciding on the next cinematic journey.

When asked about the much-anticipated third instalment of the beloved "Munnabhai" franchise, Hirani admitted that it's a project on his mind. However, he emphasized his reluctance to venture into it without a compelling story. The director emphasized that he doesn't want to capitalize on the success of the first two films, "Munnabhai MBBS" (2003) and "Lage Raho Munnabhai" (2006). 

Hirani revealed, "It's not that I don't want to do it, 100 percent I want to do it because I had fun making those films. After every film, I've tried to write one' Munnabhai.' So, I've five unfinished Munna Bhai scripts lying with me with various titles such as 'Munna Bhai Chale America,' 'Munna Bhai BA LLB,' and 'Munna Bhai Chal Basse.' There are many scripts written but none of them reached that level of greatness. I know that any 'Munnabhai' that I make will make a huge amount of money now. But I don't want to make it for that reason."

As Rajkumar Hirani gears up for his OTT debut and contemplates the future of the Munna Bhai franchise, fans are eager to witness the maestro's magic unfold in these diverse cinematic ventures.
